The Ausable Bayfield
Maitland Valley Drinking
Water Source Protection
Committee (SPC) is a
committee of 15 people
who live, work, or rent or
own property in the
region. In fulfilment of the
requirements of the
Ontario Clean Water Act,
2006 and Ontario
Regulation 287/07, one
third of the source
protection committee
membership is now
changing.
There are six members
becoming part of the
Ausable Bayfield Mait-
land Valley SPC. They will
join nine members who
are continuing on the
committee. Two of the
new representatives
were selected by local
municipalities and the
other four new represent-
atives come from differ-
ent interests in the com-
munity (industry;
commerce; property
owner and resident asso-
ciations; environmental
sector). The nine
continuing members of
the committee represent
municipalities (3); agri-
culture (3); public -at -
large (2); and environ-
ment (1).
The new members of the
source protection commit-
tee are:
Myles Murdock, Goder-
ich town councillor, rep-
resenting the region's
North municipalities
(Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh; Goderich;
Huron -Kinloss; South
Bruce).
Mark McKenzie, former
Wellington County council-
lor, representing the
region's East municipalities
(Howick; Mapleton; Minto;
North Perth; Perth East;
Wellington North; West
Perth).
Bruce Godkin, P. Eng.,
representing Industry. He
is President of G -Force
Management Group Ltd. in
Walton, where he provides
strategic business develop-
ment services to Ontario -
based manufacturing
organizations.
Philip Keightley, M.Sc.,
P. Eng., representing
Commerce with forty
years of experience in
management, design, and
construction of munici-
pal, civil, and structural
engineering projects in
Canada and overseas. He
is Principal Civil Engi-
neer and Vice -President
of Bosher Keightley
Letham Ltd. (BKL
Engineering).
Kerri Ann O'Rourke,
representing Property
Owner and Residents'
Associations. She is a for-
mer Perth East and Perth
County Clerk who now
works in her family's
business focused on
agriculture and
transportation.
John Graham, repre-
senting the Environmen-
tal Sector. He is a Project
Manager with Veolia
Water Canada Inc. where
he is responsible for man-
aging 10 municipal
drinking water system, 15
potable water distribu-
tion systems, and four
wastewater treatment
plants.
When formed in 2007,
the Ausable Bayfield Mait-
land Valley SPC was the
first source protection
committee formed in
Ontario. The members
from the industry, com-
merce, property owner
association, and environ-
mental sector interests
were selected through an
interview process. The new
members are to take part
in the next meeting of the
source protection commit-
tee, scheduled for Septem-
ber 30, 2015.

Madill Athletes compete at Goderich Invitational

F. E. Madill Secondary School
The Madill track and field
team hosted an invitational
meet in Goderich. With
nearly 1000 athletes and 28
schools attending, several of
the events proved highly
competitive. The Madill ath-
letes rose to the challenge
claiming 28 individual 'per-
sonal bests' and 3 relay per-
sonal bests. As well they
earned 11 first place finishes,
13 seconds and 13 thirds.
At this meet the grades 7
and 8 ably joined the ranks
of the Madill high school
athletes and competed in
special events for their age
division. They also earned
several top finishes with
Rachel Van Stuvenberg win-
ning long jump and placing
second in high jump, Han-
nah Bloemberg earning 2
second place finishes in the
100m and long jump, and
Hannah Van Stuyvenberg
and Breelle Shaw earning a
one-two finish in discus. The
4X100 m relay team of Jaime
Newell, Mercedes Potter,
Emma Jackson and Hannah
Bloemberg connected
smoothly on their baton
exchanges to win first place.
In the midget division, Jes-
sica Johnston won the sprint
hurdle event in addition to a
second place finish in high
jump. Taylor Montgomery
and Jasmine Vader, the
throwing duo, once again
made their presence felt in
shot put, discus and javelin
earning several first and sec-
onds between them. On the
track, the midget girls
4X100m relay team contin-
ued to improve their time
cutting over a second off
with their efficient
exchanges and winning third
place.
In the junior division, Syd-
ney Wightman continued to
shine in the discus winning
the event with a new per-
sonal best distance of
26.26m. Ben Newell hurled
the javelin 42.30 m to win

gold and improved his dis-
cus throw with 44.70m to
win the silver. Newell also
topped the bar at 1.60 m to
win second in high
jump. The junior boys relay
team of Brandon Murray,
Ben Newell, Mitch Ward,
and Cody Westecott con-
nected with their exchanges
to earn third place overall. It
is noteworthy that Ward ran
the relaywith a heavy cast on
his hand but still connected
on the exchanges and ran
well for his team.
Despite a back injury,
Karissa Schiestel achieved
a new 'best' distance when
she threw the implement
25.77m to win the bronze

110m hurdles to a first
place finish. Smith also
placed well in the horizon-
tal jumps. Justin McKague
continued to win at the
high jump event (won the
last 2 meets). The open
boys 4X400 m team of Lyn-
don Smith, Michael
