Bluevale artist completes his largest piece

Mark Breckenridge,
owner and artist at Hac 'n
Wac Metal Works at Bluev-
ale, has gotten a lot of atten-
tion from those driving by
his shop lately as he had a
huge metal bison standing
in his parking lot. The bison
is the largest piece that
Breckenridge has created
and was shipped to a farm
in the Ottawa area on Sun-
day, May 17. It is a private
commissioned work to dis-
play at their farm where
they operate three busi-
nesses which have Bison in
the company names.
Breckenridge has been
creating steel and stone
artwork for approximately
20 years. He relates that
works for a large automo-
tive company and the art
is just a fun part-time
hobby.
When asked if there are
more popular items,
Breckenridge says, "There
are trends, but they change
from year to year."
Although he has done
some larger works, he usu-
ally fills orders for smaller,
more affordable items. He
is often busy doing signs as
they are very popular,
although he does not con-
sider himself a profes-
sional sign maker. The
signs are generally flat
pieces, whereas the
3-dimensional creations
allow for more creativity
and craftsmanship, which
is what Breckenridge
enjoys the most.
The showroom for Hac
'n Wac is tucked behind
the shop, with pieces in, on
and around the display
building. Breckenridge
apologizes for not having
many pieces to show at the
time. He is kept busy with
personalized and custom
orders, making it difficult
to restock the showroom as
sales are happening faster
than he can create more
pieces.

look up, down and all around to discover the many art pieces. May 13, 2015.
Many items created at
Hac 'n Wac can be personal-
ized. At Christmas time the
personalized fire pits are
popular. Breckenridge is
often asked to create memo-
rial benches. His modesty
shows through as he points
out, "Not everything is per-
sonalized or customized,
some things are just what
they are, like a dragonfly is
just a dragonfly," as he
points to an amazingly
detailed 3-D garden
ornament.
Aleisha Barlow dropped
by the showroom with her
friend this particular day.
When asked to comment
on Breckenridge's art she
enthusiastically offers,
"He does amazing work!
My husband bought me
my first piece for Christ-
mas, so now I am back to
pick something out for
him."

as metal artist Mark Breckenridge would like as pieces are
constantly selling while he is kept busy with custom and

When you are in the parking area of Hac 'n Wac Metal Works
you will want to check the trees. You will discover you are being
watched by this perched vulture. A full-sized bear stands guard
with his front paws on a large rock along the roadway that runs
down the side of the property. May 13, 2015.
