More
The Grand Opening of
the newest business in Luc -
know took place as What's
the Scoop - Ice Cream Par-
lour & More started serving
the public on Saturday,
May 2, 2015.
Lisa Pennington's chil-
dren have been saying that
their mother should open
up a business in her vacant
building on the corner of
Bruce Rd. 1 and hwy 86
ever since it became
vacant. There had been ice
cream for sale from the site
several times over the years
in the past. It was decided
that it should become an
ice cream parlour again.
Although Darian Pen-
nington -Fritz, the eldest of
the group at age 13, came
up with the idea for ice
cream, it will be Dustin, age
12, and Raelyn, age 10, who
will be the operators of
What's the Scoop with Dar-
ian as a worker to help
them. This is their first busi-
ness. Their mother, Lisa,
will be supervising and car-
rying the business adminis-
tration end of things, but the
kids are the ones who will
be doing the day-to-day
operations to learn about
running a business. She
explained that their agreed
upon business strategy is
"going for a good-sized serv-
ing for the price to make it
worthwhile for customers to
come in:'
Dustin explained, "We
only have 9 flavours of ice
cream now, but there should
be more." The young entre-
preneurs are looking forward
to bringing in new flavours.
They also serve slushies and
are on the Huron -Kinloss Ice
Cream Trail.
Raelyn wants to add
activities for kids in the
summer. Some ideas are
bingo, crafts, movie day,
story time, nail painting
and whatever else she can
come up with to keep kids
busy during the summer.
She will run the activities
herself, while her brothers
will be concentrating on
the food service.
The Pennington -Fritz team
are happy with the response
for their Grand Opening. A lot
of people, mainly tourists,
browsed through the newly
opened Lucknow/Sepoy
Vendors' Market that rents
the other part of the building,
then came over to the What's
the Scoop side.
