thy Matron Bessie Farrell.

The Order of the Eastern
Star is a fraternal order
related to others such as the
Masonic Order and Shrin-
ers, as well as others. The
Order of the Eastern Star is
the largest fraternal order in
the world and is open to
both men and women. It
belongs to a charitable
order that also includes
several other orders that
donate over $1 million per
day toward their causes.
The funds raised are used
in the Chapter's home area.
The Kincardine Chapter of
the Order of the Eastern
Star makes donations to
cancer, arthritis, Bruce
County Women's House,
Kincardine hospital, Kin-
cardine splash pad, the
Food Bank, secondary
school bursaries, Big Broth-
ers and Big Sisters, the
Legion Poppy Fund,
Christmas hampers and
more. There is a specific
committee of the Order in
Ontario that makes six
donations per year of $4
thousand each to give to
hospitals through the Flor-
ence Nightingale
Foundation.
Funds are raised through
teas, bake sales, yard sales,
raffles, catering special
suppers and other fund-
raisers. Worthy Matron
June Elliott quips the fund-
raisers include, "however
girls raise money to give
back to the community':
A special poem is read to
all members who receive
their 60 year pin. Audrey
MacDonald was chosen to
read the poem to Elliott,
describing what it takes to
be a member. It is obvious
that the sentiments
expressed hit home with
many in the room.
