Celebrations of all kinds
There are lots of
celebrations hap-
pening this spring
in the Lucknow area.
The festive touch has
been brought to Camp-
bell Street in Lucknow
with the installation of
the Kite pole decorations
sponsored by the Luc -
know Chamber of Com-
merce. What a fun and
festive way to enhance
the main street.
As promised last
week, I am doing my
best to fit in past events
and news that did not
make it to earlier edi-
tions due to space limi-
tations. This week fea-
tures the "Easter Bonnet
Parade" variety concert
held at Pinecrest Manor.
Many talented folk
joined with the resi-
dents, their family and
staff to bring a spring lift
of the spirits to town.
R Villa was the site of
another celebration this
past weekend, as Andy
and Ann Groenveld cele-
brated their 60th Wedding
Anniversarywith their
family and friends at a
come and go tea. They are
a truly inspiring couple.
Following the DEL cup
hockey win by the team
that Bobby Raymond
play for, it was very inter-
esting to get the back-
ground
ackground story and high-
lights from the pens of
both Raymond's father
Keith and his very first
minor hockey coach Rod
MacDonagh. It seems fit-
ting to have this personal
look at a hockey career
appear in the same issue
as the annual team photo
spreads of the Lucknow
Minor HockeyAssocia-
tion. It will be interesting
to see who in the current
spreads will go on to
higher levels of
competition.
Anyone who uses
water from the Great
Lakes and St. Lawrence
River has cause for cele-
bration as the "Water
Across Borders" treaty
was signed at the Uni-
versity of Illinois by
international represent-
atives restoring water
ecosystems globally.
Huron -Kinloss Mayor
Mitch Twolan has been
very active in this initia-
tive as one of the repre-
sentatives of communi-
ties on the shores of
Lake Huron. It is a big
step forward to now, not
only work on bi-
national water issues,
but to be connected to a
global network to share
information and
resources toward a
healthier future.
The Huron -Bruce
Swingers invited mem-
bers past and present to
celebrate their 45th
anniversary at Brook-
side
rookside School. It was inter-
esting to see all the dif-
ferent combinations of
dance costumes to unite
couples or groups with
their matching colours.
It was even more inter-
esting to see the mix of
colours combinations in
various sets (or squares)
as all danced together in
different groupings
throughout the night.

stones and celebrations

Lucknow News
Ruth Dobrensky
Well here we are in
the merry month of
May, which brings back
memories of a song we
sang when I was in
school called "May is
here, the world rejoices
I certainly hope we can
rejoice and hopefully...
see no more snow until
very late in 2015.
Recently the Lucknow
Rumoli club got together
for their monthly even-
ing of playing Rumoli,
kidding around and giv-
ing each other a hard
time. We always have a
good time, even when
we lose, but especially
when we win.
Last Saturday, Luc -
know held its annual
town wide yard sale
and was the joint ever
jumping. People and
cars everywhere and
something for every-
body available for sale.
If you weren't able to
find a bargain, you
didn't look very hard.
Did you receive your
Huron -Kinloss Discov-
ery Guide for 2015? I
looked through the
entire issue and found it
to be full of great infor-
mation about our local
communities and was
pleased to see that so
many of our Lucknow
and area organizations,
service groups and
churches made it into
the guide. It was also
lovely to see how many
of our businesses adver-
tised in the guide and
how colourful all the
ads were. I was espe-
cially impressed with
the ad that the Ripley
Business Community
put in the guide,
perhaps the Lucknow
District Chamber of
Commerce could do a
similar type of ad for
next year's guide.
I noticed that the
Blyth Festival Art Gallery
is once again featuring
the art of local students. I
saw last year's art show
and it was terrific and it
was especially nice to
see the names of Luc -
know students on some
of the artwork. I hope
the talent displayed this
year will be up to last
year's standards. What
am I saying, it will
undoubtedly be as good,
if not better.
Sympathy of the
community to the fami-
lies of: Harry McCom-
bie, 86, Wingham; and,
Emma Hackett, 87,
Kitchener (formerly
Ashfield Twp.).
Dungannon & St. Helen's News
Shag Campbell
On April 23 there were
10 thirsty folks for coffee
time at the Dungannon
Seniors Centre and eight
card players for euchre
in the afternoon. Lois
Psutka won with at 47.
Trout and salmon
season opened for the
2015 year. Lots of happy
fisher folk.
The daffodils are
blooming in gardens
and along roadsides all
over the area. What a
pretty sight! Makes us
believe spring is here.
The farmers are get-
ting on the land which
is very dry this year due
to a lack of rain in April.
The vacant lot at the
corner of Isobel and
Berry Sts. in Dungan-
non makes for real nice
ball park for the local
children.
A very nice crowd
came out for the ham
and scalloped dinner,
on Saturday, April 25 at
the Ag. Hall.
The local Youth
Group was busy clean-
ing up the town and
roadsides on the April
25 as well. After their
hard work they camped
overnight at the Seniors
Centre and the Lions
Club put on a lunch for
them on Sunday. Well
done young folks!!
The Dungannon
United Church is cele-
brating 160 years with a
special service this
weekend. Barb Hicks,
who was as leader at
Camp Menesutung for
15 years will be there
along with a local youth
choir from Huron, Perth
and Bruce Counties.
Jake Alton was racing
this last weekend but
not with his usual club.
He raced with CMRC
the top Canadian
club. He wants to race
TransCan in Walton
again this year so he
has to race with CMRC
and qualify for the
TransCan. He place 7th
out of 11 in the 50cc 7-8
olds class and 8th out
of 9 in the 50cc Open
Class. I am told that
Jake has his game face
on this year and has
stepped up his game.
Way to go Jake!!! Keep
up the hard work.
