Their farm is between Clinton, Goderich and Bayfield in Goderich Township. Daryl felt that peo- ple needed to know what was and is happening in rural Ontario. The resulting docu- mentary is called "Big Wind" Once the story was written, Daryl promoted the original project to TVO. After the doc- umentary was taken on by TVO there was access to grants to fund the film, there- fore no money was obtained through any groups on either side of the wind energy debate in order to prevent bias due to funding. DLI Productions provided } - Kidd` the director and producer for the documentary. They also provided the film crew. Included in the film are interviews and comments from four political parties, leaseholders and lawyers from the proponents. It was noted that the one tour guide from one of the large wind compa- nies who had spoken with the film crew contacted the crew afterwards to ask that the entire interview with him be erased. After that point, none of the major wind companies would speak to anyone involved with the documentary. Several areas in Ontario are reviewed in the film, including the Ripley area and the ACW area where the four families involved in taking the issues through the courts have their farms. There is feedback from other areas where wind tur- bines are being, or have been, erected. Several key issues are Open House covered. There were two prescreen- ings held for area residents with approximately 50 people attending the first in St. Hel- en's and approximately 60 in Benmiller. The main focus is on the Green Energy Act of 2009 brought in by Dalton McGuinty which unilaterally stripped the power from rural Ontario to stop wind develop- ments from being built. McGuinty asserted that this was to stop NIMBYism, which stood for "Not in my back yard." The narration in the documentary states that when you take the power away from people to protect their homes, families and livelihoods then they tend to fight back Essen- tially you pit neighbour against neighbour and rural against rural which is totally opposite to how rural com- munities tend to operate. "Big Wind" will air on TVO on March 25, 29 and 31 at 9 pm (ET) and at 12 am on March 26 (midnight March 25). Red Hatters go green for St. Patty Valerie Gillies/Lucknow Sentinel The Lucknow Sepoy Ranees got into the St. Patrick's Day spirit by trading in their red hats for the colour green at Village Pizzeria on March 17, 2015. There was much talk of Ireland as some have been, although Ruth Dobrensky is the only one in the group who has kissed the Blarney Stone. Jo Landon's great grandfather is from Tipperary and Pat Weir's husband is from Co Down. There was mention of Ireland being 40 shades of green in their patchwork fields boxed in with stone fences and hedges, also what makes it interesting driving there. The only negative is that it rains there a lot. Clockwise from left: Dianne Clements, Jo Landon, Alma Campbell, Leda White, Betty Anne Elphick, Joyce Elphick, Donna Sutton, Pat Weir, Ruth Dobrensky.
