Brookside Public School Students build Character
Camryn Millian did her
Nobody project to help out chil-
dren in Peru at her grandpa's
suggestion. Camryn's older
brother had done the same
project when he was in Grade 2.
Items were collected from
the school and from family and
friend donations. Camryn col-
lected 2 full boxes of supplies
from the school. Items collected
included new underwear,
shoes, clothing, chewable vita-
mins, basic first aid supplies,
hand sanitizer, strong lice
shampoo, elastics and clips for
hair, hygiene items and school
and art supplies. Everything
was packed into a very large
hockey bag and taken to Peru
by Camryn's grandparents. Her
scrapbook page includes a
photo of a wall hanging that
included handprints of chil-
dren from both Canada and
Peru. There is also a photo of
her grandmother helping to
paint a classroom in Peru.
Taylor Dalton made a Face -
book page with her mother.
Taylor gave out notes to all of
her classmates to do some-
thing nice for someone, then
post it on the page. Some of the
nice things that were done for
family and friends included
shoveling snow off of drive-
ways and an ice rink, cleaning
snow off of a truck, making hot
chocolate for someone, baking
muffins for a hockey team, giv-
ing a Tim Horton's card to a
neighbor and helping to clean
a house to help a family after a
death in the family.
Grace Taylor worked with
her mother to collect toys that
were donated to the Goderich
office of the Huron County
Christmas Bureau. She helped
spread the word to get dona-
tions for people who would
not have had a good Christ-
mas. Grace was given a tour of
the Christmas Bureau when
she took in the toys to learn
about what they did. Her
scrapbook page includes a let-
ter, thank you card and a
bookmark from the Huron
County Christmas Bureau.
Joel Hogan raised money to
purchase a $35 bed kit from
Sleeping Children Around the
World. He wanted to help a
child go to school with the sup-
plies. Joel found his project by
looking up things on the inter -
net, then deciding that this is
what he wanted to do. He
described many of the items
that were included in the kit to
help with sleeping and going
to school.
Amanda McNeil helped out
anAnimal Rescue dog who was
living with a foster family as he
has no home. Amanda's page
has photos of Tucker, a puppy
who required surgery to fix two

cracks in his legs Amanda and
her mother set up an online
auction to raise funds for Tuck-
er's
ucker's surgeries. They raised
enough to cover his first one,
but although they raised thou-
sands of dollars there was not
enough to cover all of the sec-
ond surgery. Family and friends
donated items for the auction
including Amanda's grand-
mother's famous chocolate
chip cake. Amanda donated
some items that raised $12 from
her. Amanda would have liked
to adopt Tucker, but she has a
cat and Tucker doesn't like cats
or dogs.
Taylor Dalton's BPS Grade 2 Nobody project was to make a
Facebook page with her mom and post nice things she had done
for people on it, while encouraging others to post what they had
done for others. March 13, 2015.
Camryn Millian did her BPS Grade 2 Nobody project on gathering
supplies for children in Peru to be delivered by her grandparents.
