Chance for new people to join drinking water source protection committee Brookside Public School
Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley Drinking
Water Source Protection Committee
Submitted
Local citizens on the Ausa-
ble Bayfield Maitland Valley
Drinking Water Source Pro-
tection Committee (SPC)
have worked since 2007 to
create terms of reference,
assessment reports, and
source protection plans. Now
that the Province of Ontario
has approved the new plans,
about one third of the com-
mittee members are about to
complete their terms. That
has created the opportunity
for more local people to sub-
mit their names as potential
committee members. The
deadline for applications has
been extended to Friday,
April 3, 2015.
The current members of
the committee have shown
great dedication in their
work, said Jenna Allain, Pro-
gram Supervisor. "Their work
has resulted in approved
local plans to reduce risk to
municipal drinking water
sources," she said. "Some
members have decided that
now is a good time to step off
the committee. This creates
an opportunity for other peo-
ple to be part of this public
health initiative."
An advertisement calling for
applications was published in
local newspapersinJanuary. The
region has received several appli-
cations since thattime. The dead-
line has been extended to ensure
that everyone has an opportunity
to be considered, said Allain.
The source protection
plans take effect April 1,
2015. The Program Supervi-
sor said the region is enter-
ing an exciting new phase of

the committee's work. "We
are pleased that most com-
mittee members are able to
continue as members and
bring their experience to the
next phase of source protec-
tion," Allain said. "We are
also excited at the chance to
add new community voices
at the table."
The region is seeking appli-
cations for four (4) vacancies
on the source protection com-
mittee. The new members are
to come from the following
interests: Economic Sector -
Industry (1); Economic Sector
- Commerce (1); and Environ-
ment/Health/Public/Property
Association (2). If interested in

ment to the Ausable Bayfield

Students build Character
Valerie Gillies
Lucknow Sentinel
For the 4th year the Grade
2 students in Mrs. Schu-
macker's class at Brookside
Public School have been
working on their Nobody
project as a character build-
ing activity.
Nobody is an ageless,
genderless doll who arrives
in the class with nothing to
distinguish it as anything to
be an individual. The pro-
ject for the class is to help
Nobody become a some-
body who cares by creating
things for Nobody to do.
The guidelines are that any-
body can do anything to
make changes and show
they care. It does not take
big undertakings to make a
difference and be a some-
body. Nobody the doll
receives a token symbol for
each completed project
give character to the person
that Nobody is becoming.
There are classroom pro-
jects recorded in a class
scrapbook. The Terry Fox
run that was initiated by
the Grade 2 class who
spread awareness and
information, doing the
announcements, posters
and the assembly. A Spook
Swap was undertaken.
Used Hallowe'en Costumes
were brought in by BPS stu-
dents who then received a
ticket to swap for another
costume or they could give
a toonie to get a costume.
All proceeds from the
Spook Swap were donated
to charity.
There also individual
Nobody projects created by
each student. As they com-
plete their project they
record it by scrapbooking
their own 2 -page record. The
first five are presented here.
Watch for more Nobody pro-
jects in future editions.
