The Lucknow Sentinel, 2015-03-04, Page 11Wednesday, March 4, 2015 • Lucknow Sentinel 11 Lancers Advance to Semi Finals Le ends Score Dickie Dunn The Lucknow Lancers have advanced to the semi-finals against the Shallow Lake Crushers. The series starts in Luc - know on SundayMarch 8 at 3:30 pm. With a must win game on Saturday night against Seaforth the boys came out flying. The Lancers found them- selves down a goal early however responded when John Chappell ripped a shot top comer to tie the score at 1 - 1. Rick Andrew earned the assist. On the very next shift Matt McClinchey tapped in the rebound with help from Brandon Dykxhoorn and Jake Bruce. The second period was a roller coaster of ups and downs as 8 goals were scored. The Lancers trailed 4 - 2 when they got a chance to get back into the game on the power play. The team took the opportunity and scored 4 power play goals. Goal scorers were Brett Binning, John Chappell, Jamie Miller and Tucker Dorscht. Assists went to Gowing, Rivett, Phillips, Chap- man, Simpson, Ducharme, Aton. This gave the team a 7 to 5 lead heading into the third period. Seaforth tied the game 7 to 7 by the 12 minute mark however the Lancers would not be denied. Rick Andrew went bunk to give the Lancers a 8 to 7 lead which theywould hold. This now means the team plays Shallow Lake in a 4 out of 7 series. Game 1 is Sunday at 3:30 pm. Carlos Diaz and his daughters Maria and Ana travelled from Waterloo to play crokinole for the very first time. Not only did we give them a warm welcome while explain- ing the rules, we were impressed with their enthusiasm. Jim Rich from For- mosa enjoyed his first appearance and it brought back many great memories for him and really that is why we get together. After the friendly fire took place the results were tallied with these results. Robert Bonnett took first place for the men with 65, Ken Hawkins second with 64, Peter Carter nailed 3rd with 58 and Frances Zettler claimed 4th having 49. Neil Cook and Ken shared first in twenties with 49, Al Carter shot 41 for second, Peter had 40 and Robert took4thwith 37. In the ladies department Carol Cook took first with 57, Evelyn Hodgkinson had 47, Jo -Ann Carter claimed 3rdwith 37 and Doreen Sulkye captured 4th with 33 points. Carol had the most cen- tres with 26, Jo -Ann had 23, Doreen popped in 22 and Sharmane Carter and first time player Ana Diaz shared forth spot with 15. Door prizes went to Carman Hodg- kinson, Ken Hawkins and Ed Phillips. Ed will be celebrating his 88th birthday on March 4th The afternoon closed by wishing Al and Sharmane ahappy 41st wedding anniversary. With an inquiry coming from St. Helens last week and four young men getting together on weekends to play in Walkerton we know our local news- papers are helping spread the word about this game. March 7th at 1:30 p.m. Please call Peter at 392-8115 to ensure board space. a 9 Missy Kuik The Lucknow Legends wrapped up their first playoff series with a 5-0 win over Petrolia. 36 seconds into the first period Julie Hamilton started off the scoring with help from Missy Kuik and Cait- lin Hamilton. Kait Coiling and Melissa Atkinson would then set up Julie Hamilton again for a bullet shot from the point early in the second period. Hamilton would then wrap up her hat trick with Atkinson and Bailey McDonagh assisting. Hannah, the Piranha decided to get herself in on the action, with a pair of goals coming from Maggie Young 2 and Coiling. Riley Aitchison once again played amazing for a well deserved shutout! The final series will start against Stratford on Saturday at 7:30 pm in Lucknow.
