Wednesday, June 10, 2015 • Lucknow Sentinel 9 Citizens speak to Huron -Kinloss Council Valerie Gillies Lucknow Sentinel Elmer Smeltzer was one of two cit- izens who asked to speak with Huron -Kinloss Council and was added to the Agenda of the General Committee Meeting for June 1, 2015. Smeltzer is concerned that the road allowances are no longer being kept up as well as they used to be in the past. He asked if he could ask to be put into contact with Hugh Nichol to show him where the problem areas were. In Smeltzer's words, 'All of the roads are looking horrible, all of them." Smeltzer's main concern was that there was no longer any brush kill being done, allowing small trees to grow and become obstacles on some roadways. He is also con- cerned about a wooden bridge that should be looked at before prob- lems arise from large agricultural equipment using it as their only access to specific fields. Deputy Mayor agreed that the concerns described by Smeltzer are real and should be dealt with. Coun- cil will look into getting someone to look at what is going on and what needs to be done. He will arrange for a meeting with Hugh Nichol. Wayne Couture was the second citi- zen on the Agenda of the meeting. He has suffered health issues due to the 1:11 tM:MKNIM The Corporation of the County of Bruce Highways Department requires a Truck Driver/Labourer The Corporation of the County of Bruce requires a Truck Driver/ Labourer, working out of the Lucknow Shop. He has contacted everyone he can think of to try to get some compensa- tion for not being able to live in his home. After a first round of consulta- tions, Couture has built a second home on the property, which is also nowpol- luted with the noise, continuing to make it that he cannot live in either home on his property. He asked Coun- cil to either reimburse his taxes or order the turbines taken down. It was explained to Couture that Council does not have jurisdiction over the wind turbines. They have done all that they legally can by declaring Huron -Kinloss as an unwilling host community. Coun- cillor Lillian Abbot stated that, although that is not helping Cou- ture, that at least it has been noticed that the Township is no longer being inundated with proposals from wind companies to build new pro- jects within Huron -Kinloss. This indicates that the declaration as unwilling host is working as a deter- rent for wind companies. It was explained to Couture that his taxes cannot be reimbursed, as the Township is not directly receiv- ing financial benefits from the wind companies and that the taxes go to services which he does bene- fit from, as in waste management, road maintenance and other ser- vices all residents enjoy.
