Fair explains that he was originally approached by Marilyn Meldrum, Past President of the Huron Shores Lions to upgrade the park. When he asked if that meant that they wanted the playground equipment replaced, he was advised to think big and to think outside of the box with this project. The result has been new play- ground equipment that is suitable for ages 2-12 years, benches, a barbecue, as well as fitness equipment beside the children's area to give adults a chance to stay active. The donation from the Ripley Lions has been used to install a new steel roof on the pavilion. The Huron Shores Lions members have spruced up the pavilion with new paint. Don Cass, Director of the Huron Shores Lions, commented that the improvements that were made will make the park a great place for people to go for the next 20 years. Lions Park is often used for family picnics. Being located just a block from the Community Centre gives residents and visitors the option of indoor activities at the Community Centre and outdoor activi- ties in the park. Don Murray, Councillor for Huron -Kinloss remarked that it is cooperative projects like this, including the Prov- ince, Township and local groups that make for the bet- terment of our municipality. "Projects like this don't always happen without the partnerships." MPP for Huron -Bruce, Lisa Thompson was on hand to cut the ribbon to open the park. She described the pro- ject as, "a tremendous investment. This is a great way to see taxpayer money reinvested into the commu- nity." Thompson went on to state that although there is flat growth through some of the area, Point Clark is one community that is growing, especially with more young families.
