Students attending post- secondary school this fall can apply for one of 100, $500 scholarships. Students who are enrolled in a skilled - trade, college or university for the 2015/16 academic year are invited to apply when it opens on June 1. "Education opens so many doors for people and, as the region's largest employer, we feel a responsi- bility to encourage and sup- port our youth in pursuing post -secondary education," said Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO, Bruce Power. The Following Municipality of Huron East Road Sides in the Geographic Township of Tuckersmith: • East of Highway 4 and South of Highway 8: Front Road, Tile Road Centennial Road, Stone Road Chislehurst Road, Oak Road, Hensall Road, Walnut Road, Staffa Road, Roman Road, Short Horn Road, Vanastra Road, Sanctuary Road, Kinburn line, Division Line, Hanna Line and Morrison Line north of Rogerville Road. Anyone not wishing to have the roadside adjacent to their property treated for noxious weeds should contact Barry Mills at the Municipality of Huron East 519-527-0160. Note: It is the responsibility of the property owner requesting no spray to contact the appropriate person identified above each calendar year prior to the application of weed spray. Property owners requesting no spray will be responsible for all noxious weeds on the road allowance adjacent to their property. There are no limita- tions on areas of study and some special considera- tions are in place to ensure a broad reach and diverse group have the opportu- nity to reach their goals. The program's aim is to reach as many students as possible with a one-time monetary pledge of sup- port during their academic studies. "We hope that by provid- ing an opportunity of finan- cial assistance to eligible stu- dents in our surrounding communities, it will help to cover some of the rising costs of tuition," Hawthorne said. In 2015, Bruce Power will invest $100,000 in scholar- ships and commencement awards for students throughout our region. The application period opens June 1 and closes July 3 at 3 p.m. New Scholarships poised to help Local Students make an impact in Science and Medicine Community Foundation Grey Bruce An endowed fund created with Community Foundation Grey Bruce will start providing two scholarships annually to assist local youth. The Marjorie and Mac Gingrich Endowed Fund will support first year to third year post -secondary stu- dents from Grey Bruce who are studying medical sciences or related research at a recog- nized Canadian university. The scholarships can sup- port a range of studies, includ- ing medical science, research, nursing, or pre-med pro- grams. Two scholarships of $500 will be available this year, with flexible distributions in perpetuity each year thereaf- ter through the earnings from the endowed fund. The scholarship was begun by Marjorie Gingrich, to mark her long career in nursing and to honour the memory of her late husband, Mac Gingrich. Marjorie and Mac Gingrich were both raised in Bruce County and have backgrounds in educa- tion and nursing. Mrs. Gingrich created this important scholarship in response to the Community Foundation Grey Bruce's matched funding program, which matches fifty cents on every dollar donated up to Submitted A new scholarship fund has been created by Marjorie Gingrich, long-time nurse, to honour her career and that of her late husband, Mac Gingrich whose background was in education.
