Canada Day Fish Fry a continuing success Valerie Gillies Lucknow Sentinel The Lucknow Legion Branch 309 held their 2015 Canada Day Fish Fry on Wednesday, July 1. Following a vey rainy Summerfest the previous weekend, it was refreshing to have a rain -free day on Can- ada Day. George Adams of Brussels Legion was the main cook. He commented that the weather "couldn't have been better for cooking. It didn't rain and it was not too hot." Wayne Phillips, one of the many satisfied diners said, "I'm glad the sun finally showed up for supper. It turned out to be a good day." Betty Stanley was decked out in her Canada Day attire to man the door. She said of the event, "It's good. We are sold out, plus more?' There was nothing but praise for the meal, itself. Tracy Van Osch exclaimed, "The meal was fantastic and nobody had to cook!" At least no one at the table had to. Ruth Dobrensky declared that it was the "best fish in town", to which Joan Robinson added it was "an elegant sufficiency". It was explained that this had been Robinson's mother's well-known response at meals, a bit of an inside joke with those at the table. They were enjoying reminiscing about past dinners together in Luc - know through the years. It was agreed that meals like this are as much for the community to get together to socialize as to eat out. When asked for their thoughts on Canada Day, the meal or the event, Doug and Charlene McE- wan and Marg and Wayne Stanley wanted to give a group statement, rather Couples showed their patriotism as they enjoyed the Canada Day Fish Fry at the Lucknow Legion.
