Lucknow Fall fair books
available
If you haven't spotted
them around town, the Luc -
know Fall Fair books are now
available.
This year's theme is
"Country Bumpkins, Harvest
Pumpkins", so get busy
thinking about the various
ways you can incorporate
that into your parade entry,
or in one of the homecraft
sections that features
pumpkins.
This is the 152nd fall fair
and it is made possible
thanks to the donations of a
large number of sponsors,
which you can find listed in
the back of the fair book. If it
wasn't for their generosity,
the fall fair board would be
hard pressed to put on a fair.
Books are available at:

New Universal Child Care
Benefit to help thousands
across Huron -Bruce
Submitted by office of MP
Benn Lobb
GODERICH, ON - Starting
July 20, families across
Huron -Bruce with children
under 18 will receive the
increased and expanded
Universal Child Care Benefit
(UCCB).
Huron -Bruce MP Ben
Lobb praised the UCCB,
"Increasing benefits, while
continuing to keep taxes low
for families, means that par-
ents have more to invest in
their children's futures. It
doesn't matter how much
you make or how you
choose to care for your
kids."
Parents will now receive
almost $2,000 per year for
each child under 6 and a
brand-new $720 every year
for each child 6 through
17. The increased pay-
ments will be delivered
starting today, July
20th. The increases are ret-
roactive to January
lst. Parents will receive
lump -sum back payment
of about $500 for each
child under the age of 18.
Thereafter, monthly pay-
ments will continue at
$160 per child under 6 and
$60 for each child 6
through 17. These amounts
are in addition to any pay-
ments you currently
receive under the Child
Tax Benefit, which remains
unchanged. If you have a
child who has never
received the UCCB, you
must apply.
In addition to the
boosted UCCB, our Family
Tax Cut allows couples with
kids to split their incomes
to lower their tax bill by as
much as $2,000. We are
also increasing the daycare
tax credit by another $1,000
and doubling the Chil-
dren's Fitness Tax Credit to
$1,000.
To apply or if you did not
receive your UCCB
payment, please visit
www.Canada.ca/TaxSavings
to apply.

Pertussis in Southern
Bruce County and Northern
Huron County
Immunizations
important for
all ages
Huron and Bruce County
Health Units
The Grey Bruce Health Unit
is working with Huron County
to address a local pertussis
outbreak. There are 39 cases
in southern Bruce County,
mainly in an under -immu-
nized population. Huron
County Health Unit reports
significant pertussis activity in
the north end of Huron
County. The Huron Health
Unit has recently noted signif-
icant pertussis activity in an
under -immunized population
in the north end of the county.
There has been no increased
pertussis activity observed in
the general population.
Pertussis, or whooping
cough, is a serious infection of
the breathing system caused
by a bacteria. It is spread eas-
ily through droplets in the air
from coughing or sneezing by
an infected person. Pertussis
starts with an irritating cough.
The cough becomes more fre-
quent and severe, often fol-
lowed by vomiting. This lasts
up to two months or longer. A
characteristic crowing or high
pitched whoop may occur.
The disease is most serious in
young children, especially
those under one year of age.
In this age group pertussis
may lead to pneumonia, sei-
zures, brain damage and
occasionally death.
The Health Units reminds
all residents to make sure
they and their families have
up-to-date immunizations.
Recently released studies
like the 2013 Childhood
National Immunization Cover-
age Survey focus on childhood
immunizations, but adults also
need to be immunized.
Updated immunizations
against diseases like pertus-
sis are especially important if
you will be around a new-
born or baby.
"Situations like this show
why immunizations are
important," says Dr. Janice
Owen, Medical Officer of
Health (A). "Although we are
seeing these pertussis cases
in one population, we have a
high vaccination rate in our
school populations in Huron
County:' the outbreak area and to
