A month of mix
The first month of
summer has
drawn to a close
and a busy one it was!
This week's edition fea-
tures some memorable
moments and stories
from day one, yes Can-
ada Day, through to the
last week and beyond.
Actually, one article in
this issue is much older
than this month. The
Bruce County Historical
Society has submitted
the first installment of a
history of the Sauble
River area, beginning
with Sauble Falls Village
in 1854. It all began with
a sawmill, as did many
settlements in Southern
Ontario.
Not quite history, as
yet, a commemorative
stamp has been
released by Canada Post
in honour of Alice
Munro.
The importance and
close relationship this
area holds with water-
ways and beaches is
ongoing. The "Be a
Beach Bum, not a Beach
Butt" campaign is
expanding along the
shores of Lake Huron.
Littering is not just
unsightly, it can cause
real environmental and
health problems.
One lakeside commu-
nity also has an ongoing
relationship with music.
Point Clark hosts a jam-
boree at their Commu-
nity Centre on alternate
weeks. In the comments
submitted by the audi-
ence, it is most certainly
a close relationship for
both the musicians and
the ones who attend to
be entertained.
July was also the
month for the Lucknow
Sepoy Ranees to go on
their mystery tour
which included meeting
alpacas. The Wawanosh
4-H group Huron Har-
vesters finished their
club with a tour, as well.
They were hosted for
their Achievement in
the garden of Rhea
Hamilton-Seegar to
learn about native
plants.
The newest member
of the Miltenburg fam-
ily, Andrew, was also
surrounded by plants as
he attended his first
flower show in the Luc -
know United Church
where his grandmother
had entered her
arrangements.
There are two articles
in this issue that are tied
to the Ripley Reunion.
There has been a special
song written as the
anthem to the 2015 Rip-
ley Reunion that fea-
tures the history of the
village. The building on
which the new histori-
cal murals have been
mounted will also be
showcased during the
Reunion in the hopes of
attracting ideas and
development of busi-
nesses and housing to
keep Ripley growing
into the future.
The important event
coming up in the Luc -
know in September is
the Fall Fair. There is
some advance informa-
tion you will want to
check out to participate
in the various competi-
tions and events.
Lucknow News
Ruth Dobrensky
Congratulations and happy 90th
birthday to Betty Ritchie. Many
happy returns Betty.
Recently, some members of the
Lucknow Sepoy Ranees went on a
mystery tour. The first stop was at
the Graham Alpaca farm on Hwy.
86. An enjoyable time was had by
the ladies with some of the friendly
Alpacas followed by the opportu-
nity to see some of the beautiful
garments made from Alpaca hair.
We then travelled to Walkerton
where we stopped for a coffee
break at the Green Bean Cafe and
Bakery. After our break we trav-
elled through Hanover stopping at
Yesterdays Garden Centre where
we enjoyed the plants, flowers and
gift shop. From Hanover we drove
to Durham where we stopped at
the Durham Art Gallery to view the
work of two first nations artists,
Christin Dennis (Chippewa) and
Jason Baerg (Cree Metis), Both
these young artists are very tal-
ented and we were all quite
impressed with their work. By that
time it was past lunch time so we
went to the recommended Garaf-
raxa Cafe in Durham for a lovely
lunch after which we spent some
time shopping. On our way home,
we stopped in Walkerton to do a bit
of shopping, where some of us
were able to find some good
bargains.
Last week the Lucknow Rumoli
Club met for our monthly get
together. We had our usual fun and
frolicking but were shocked (as
many Rumoli players out there
would probably be) by the fact that
during the evening, there were not
one or two wins on the 7-8-9
sequence, but five, three by the
same player. We were all
flabbergasted.
Also last week the Agricultural
Society held their annual flower
show. I was unable to attend as I'd
made other plans and didn't know it
was even being held until I acciden-
tally saw the sign outside the United
Church. I do hope it was well
attended.

Purple Grove News
Sincere sympathy is sent to Irene
Liddle and her family on the death
of her son Jamie.
What a great turnout for the bridal
shower for Brianne and Michelle
Elliott in Ripley Thursday evening.
An evening of lovely gifts, lots of vis-
iting and good food. Thanks ladies
from the Bethel area.
Thanks to the fellows (and
helpers) of the Ripley Fire Depart-
ment for a nourishing meal on Sat-
urday, July 18. The mushball tourna-
ment folks appreciated it too.
Everyone that was able to attend
the Finnie barn dance had a great
time. The weather was perfect, the
fun and fellowship most excellent.
Colleen and J P Greenwood and
family visited with his grandparents
June and Earl Elliott of "R" Villa on
Monday evening.
Dungannon & St. Helen's News
Submitted
If the way to a man's heart is
through his stomach, then there will
be a lot of men loving Dungannon
this summer.
The Dungannon Seniors Hall
committee makes and sells meat
and fruit pies, both large and small,
as an ongoing fundraiser for the hall.
The sale of these pies is the only way
to keep this centre afloat.
The Dungannon Fair is coming up
on Sunday, August 9. A tasty part of
this event is the Smoked Pork Sup-
per which will be served between
4:30 and 6 pm at the Dungannon
Agricultural Hall. To reserve a seat at
the supper, call 519-529-3662.
