The Lake Huron Learning
Collaborative is pleased to
honour two local students
through the 2015 Jean Mar-
latt Bursary program.
Lake Huron Learning is a
not-for-profit organization
with learning centres in Kin-
cardine and Goderich. In
2010, LHLC received a gener-
ous donation from the estate
of Jean Marlatt, of Goderich.
Jean was a keen supporter of
the arts and an avid reader,
who recognized the need for
additional educational oppor-
tunities within our rural
communities. In her honour,
LHLC has created an annual
bursary to be awarded to two
of its dedicated post -second-
ary students.
Jean's children Lynn
Bearden and Steve Marlatt
recently presented the 2015
bursary to Jennifer Pritchard
and Michael Krane. Jennifer
lives in Goderich and is a stu-
dent in the Early Childhood
Education course series at
LHLC Goderich. Michael
recently completed the Pro-
ject Management Certificate
program at LHLC in Kincar-
dine. He is a resident of Kin-
cardine. Both of these pro-
grams are offered through
the organization's partner-
ship with Fanshawe College.
A number of new
letter to the editor
Dungannon Senior Centre
I wish to commend
the Lucknow Sentinel for its
excellent coverage of events
that are happening in our
area. Especially of note is the
last issue with pictures of
Dungannon's latest potluck
supper. With the attendance
and support of the local citi-
zens many of our small
communities are able to
offer a variety of functions.
In Dungannon alone,
groups like the Agricultural
Society, Lions Club, Youth
Group, Women's Institute
and the Senior Center are
doing their best to offer a
variety of venues for the
local population of all ages.
The Lucknow Sentinel,
and Val Gillies have been
covering these events in the
surrounding villages, and
this is helping to boost
attendance at these
functions.
I want to draw attention to
the Dungannon Senior
Center. It is one organization
that needs to have fundrais-
ers to help keep it alive. The
Fanshawe College programs
will be offered this fall at
both sites, including Project
Management Specialist, Per-
sonal Support Worker, Gen-
eral Business, Computerized
Office Essentials, Leadership
Development and Human
Resources Management. A
credit course in Payroll
Administration and a variety
of professional development
trainings are also scheduled.

Perth -Huron and The Centre
for Employment and Learn-
ing are pleased to announce
that a settlement counsellor
will be available once a
month in both Huron and
Perth Counties. The counsel-
lor will be available at the
Multicultural Association in
Stratford and at the Centre
for Employment and Learn-
ing in Exeter, to assist with
Government forms and to
respond to immigration
questions.
"This will be such a tre-
mendous resource for new-
comers to both counties",
stated Mark Hertzberger,
Project Manager at the Mul-
ticultural Association of
Perth -Huron. "Processes
and forms can be confusing
at best, but in a second lan-
guage it is especially helpful
to have some knowledgeable
guidance." Those assisted
will also have access to an
intake worker at the Multi-
cultural Association to help
them with their other needs.
"Every country does things
differently, so it is a wonder-
ful opportunity to have both
a counsellor and the associa-
tion available to help those
new to our communities"

We need to remind people
that all are welcome to all
functions held in the Dun-
gannon Senior Center. Let's
start by accepting an invita-
tion to our Thursday coffee
time at loam or cards at 1pm.

ties. The steering committee
consisted of Huron Local

the need of not only new-
comers but individuals that
may already have been
residing in the area for many
years. Thanks to the United

a settlement counsellor is
now available.
