The lineup for the fish fry began at the door of the St. Helen's Community Hall and continued on
down the block for a sold out event. June 20, 2015.
Another success story
St. Helen's Hall
Committee
Kathy Todd
The St. Helen's Hall Com-
mittee is a small group of
eleven individuals who
devote their time to bring
you an annual Valentine's
Day Supper and two fish
fries each year (one in June
and one in September). Only
eleven members belong to
this committee: Ron and
Barb Snowden, Lee and Lila
Rintoul, Allan McDonald,
Marlene MacDonald, Doug
Miller, Edward Shetler, Mel
Lyons, Wayne and Kathy
Todd. We also rely on past
residents and school stu-
dents to help us out.
The fish fry began as an
annual event. It was shared
with another Conservation
group from St. Joseph. When
they quit on us we were in a
panic as we had no fryers to
hold the event. The Township
came to our rescue and
bought us the fryers. Since this
time the group has made
enough funds to keep the hall
open and in good repair.
Annually, we are making little
improvements here and there.
It also lessens the tax payers
burden as the events almost
cover operating expenses.
Each year the fish fry is
sold out (350 tickets). We
have people attending from
Varna, London and even
New York State. It is an expe-
rience for city folk that just
doesn't happen anywhere
else.
Through the devotion of
the "English" and "Amish" of
the area, anyone who buys a
ticket can enjoy a feast of all
you can eat of fish, fries,
salad, baked potato, buns,
drinks and desserts. There
are so many varieties of
foods to choose from. The
staff gets regular comments
on the building, the atmos-
phere and mostly the food.
It is the fame of St. Helen's,
the little "Hamlet with the
Big Heart". Volunteerism is
alive and well in our com-
munity. Just shows you what
many hands can do.

Monitor your child online
fSouth Bruce
OPP
The South Bruce Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP) is
reminding parents to moni-
tor their youth online after a
complaint of inappropriate
messaging involving an 11
year old was made by a resi-
dent in the Municipality of
Kincardine on June 21, 2015.
Parents are encouraged to
supervise their youth in the
virtual world just as they
would in the real world. The
following tips are being
offered to help keep young
people safer online:
• Set rules about house-
hold internet use
• Always keep computers
in high traffic areas
• Know your child's user
name/passwords and contacts
• Realize that anything
posted online is permanent
• Protect your passwords
and make them hard to guess
• Be careful with webcams -
your image can be captured
• Don't say anything online
you wouldn't say in real life
The internet is a powerful
tool for researching a school
project, connecting with
friends or entertainment,
but there are pitfalls. Be
careful what you post or
share with others, safe surf-
ing starts with you. If you're
not connected with your
youth - who is?
