What a wonderful way to kick off the summer. Of course, there was music during the Luc - know Strawberry Summerfest plus a whole lot more ways to have fun and celebrate summer, despite the rains on Saturday. Con- gratulations to the winners of the soccer and slo-pitch tournaments as well as the winners of the various contests. Although the con- tests have all been completed, the commit- tee has generously sent the Sentinel a copy of the questions and answers for the Trivia contest. Have fun trying to answer them for yourself if you did not get the chance to do so during Summerfest. Dungannon Seniors Hall committee hosted a potluck and music evening as their fundraiser, as well. It was a well -attended and most enjoyable evening as the crowd joined in often to sing along or tap their toes or fingers to the music. This was the first time the potluck was held in the evening to try to accommodate those who work during the day. The turnout would indicate that this was a wise move on the part of the committee. Music was again a part of the atmosphere at the Wmg Night at the Legion. However, the big event at the Legion this past week was the Canada Day Fish Frywhich was sold out. Coverage for that event will appear in the next edition of the Sentinel. In the mean- time, check out the festive Legion Canada Day door prize winner on the sports page. She is no stranger to Sentinel readers. Another successful Fish Fry was held by the St. Helen's Hall committee. There is a wonderful story behind this that was sub- mitted by Kathy Todd. A wedding anniver- sary celebration has branched out into a new bursary to help area students further their education. Be a part of this by making your donation as an anniversary gift to MP Larry Miller and his wife Darlene. Meanwhile in Ripley... the historical mural has begun to be mounted on the David Brown building. This has been a community heritage project through the help of the Township of Huron -Kinloss. The goal is to have all of the pieces in place in time for the Ripley Reunion. With so many things going on and so much to celebrate, have a wonderful sum- mer! If you cannot participate on your own, enjoy the ongoing travel series. Lucknow News Ruth Dobrensky Congratulations and happy 50th anni- versary to Lois and Glen Walden who will be celebrating this coming weekend with family and friends. Now that Canada Day is over for another year, we can start thinking about what we're going to do in 2017, the 150th anniversary of our country's beginnings. There will probably be many events planned all over the coun- try as this will be a BIG anniversary. People of my age won't live to see the 200th so I do hope there are big celebra- tions to take part in like we had in 1967 for the centennial. There was a good crowd at the Luc - know Legion for their annual Canada Day Fish Fry, and as usual, they did a splendid job or organizing and preparing the delicious food. It was also a great opportunity for friends and neighbours to visit and spend some quality time together. A certain someone by the name of Betty Bone was also celebrating her birthday so her piece of cake arrived with lit candles on it. Needless to say, those who were nearest sang happy birthday to her. Now that summer is here, please drive carefully and watch out for children who may not remember to watch where they are walking or running. Sympathy of the community to the familly of: Margaret McClenaghan, 80, R5, Lucknow. Purple Grove WI News Well there was no shortage of things to do on the weekend despite the inclem- ent weather, so hopefully everyone enjoyed what was available either indoors or outdoors. It's sure a challenge for the farmers to hit it right for getting the hay off the fields in good conditon. Linda and Diane Gottschalk visited with Largaret McInnes on the weekend at her home in Kincardine. Our sympathy goes out to Harvey and Betty Needham and the Hollands fami- lies on the passing of Louis Needham/ Hollands. On Wednesday the Ripley Horticul- tural Society held a sucessful Flower Show and Tea with a good attendence at the arena in Ripley. Thanks to the ladies for hosting and to those participating making it a fun day. Mary Anne Kukoly visited and had an enjoyable lunch and visit with Ruth McCosh in Goderich on Friday. It is good to see such great community support for our local gals and this time it was for bride elect Dr. Robyn Thompson, daughter of Brian and Betty Anne Thompson. A fun time was held at the shower on Saturday at the community room at the Ripley Complex. The Rhine River Crusiers have returned home from a wonderful time vacationing abroad. The Planning Committee met at the home of Marilyn Reid on Thursday to com- pile the next agenda for the Purple Grove WI Institute for 2015-2016 meetings. As always we are always looking for new members and new ideas, we are extending a warm welcome to anyone that would be interested in either joining or just come on out and see what the institute is all about. As an Institute the women have been responsible for getting a lot of important issues accomplished over the years and there is still a lot to do yet. It is truly amaz- ing the strength we have as a united front and many don't realize how much we have been involved and still are. School is out and we wish to congratu- late all the students graduating from Grade 8 this year from the Ripley Huron Commu- nity school. It is exciting to move forward and see what challenges lie ahead for those students. Enjoyyour summer. Once again the members of the St. Andrews United Church have out done themselves and provided a bountiful BBQ Ham Supper on Sunday at the Rip- ley Arena. It was well attended and eve- ryone enjoyed getting together to meet and visit for a while. Saturday Night many from the com- munity and far away came together at the Anglician Parish Hall in Kincardine to join in and celebrate Bonnie Boyle's 60th birthday. Congrats Bonnie. Recent visitors with Carman and Cheryl Bridge were Ron and Diane Elllis from Auburn and Kyle, Holly and wee Gavin. Looking forward to celebrating July 1st festivities, hopefully the weather will coop- erate and we will be able to enjoy the many fireworks displays being put on around the area. Be safe and enjoy the days ahead. Planning an event? Don't forget to advertise! Lucknow Sentinel 519-528-2e22
