Lucknow Karate Students Compete in Guelph

Doug Avery is thrilled with
the way the Lucknow group
performed at their first tour-
nament. The members of the
Karate classes at Mayfair
Training in Lucknow
attended the Guelph Open
Karate Shiai, charity karate
tournament hosted by Tri -
City Training on Saturday,
November 15, 2014.
This is the third year for this
tournament which is open to
all ages, belts and karate
styles. There are many differ-
ent styles of karate. Each regis-
trant could compete in three
events including kata, kubodo
and kumite. This tournament
supports the charity "Right to
Play': For more information

toplay.ca.
Of the Lucknow represent-
atives, Satie Scott won 1" Kata
and 2nd Kumite while Jasmine
Lawlor placed 1S' Kumite and
3rd Kata, both competing in
the teen white, yellow, orange
class. Steve Bongertman won
1" Kumite in the adult white,
yellow orange class. Dylan
Murray competed in chil-
dren's white, yellow, orange
class against over 100
competitors.
Sensai Doug Avery reported
that the Lucknow participants
received positive comments
from the other blackbelts.

Huron County Library is
looking for a Mascot
Design a Superhero Contest
Huron County Library
Huron County Library is
holding a contest to find its
new mascot. We've nar-
rowed it down to being a
"superhero" and now we
need your help.
Your mission is to design
an original superhero just for
the people of Huron County
and their library. Keep in
mind all your favourite
things about the library.
Think about the library's
special qualities, programs
and services while you cre-
ate your design.
The contest is open to
anyone under 18 years of
age. All work must be origi-
nal and only one entry per
person will be accepted.
Submissions will be
accepted at your local
library from January
27 -February 28, 2015. Judg-
ing will take place on
March 9.
We'll be announcing the
winner on International
Children's Book Day, April 2.
The winning entry will
receive a $50 iTunes card.
Entry and consent forms
are available at all the
branches of the Huron
County Library or online at
www.huroncounty.ca/
library/.
