Good Sports around Lucknow
It seems that there are a lot of good sports in and around
Lucknow. Or, is it more that they are a sporting lot.
Congratulations to Cliff Mann on his 60th birthday
and the gift that his staff bestowed on him of playing on
his dream team. That will certainly be a memory that will
be cherished for a very long time.
The Karate club that studies under Sensai Doug Avery did
very well during their first time competing at a tournament.
Anyone who is interested in martial arts would do well to
look into the classes at Mayfair Training in Lucknow.
Aim and Suzanne Andrew are most certainly good sports
when it comes to working for the chanty Sleeping Children
Around the World (SCAW). This is a noble cause and it would
be great to give them support by donating bed kits to the chil-
dren in need. Watch for further updates as the trip draws closer.
While we are on the topic of competitions, it is time to
start planning for the 2015 Lucknow Fall Fair. The Agricul-
tural Society could use some more volunteers to come on
as Directors and helpers. Consider becoming a member
of the Society and be a part of putting on the Fall Fair and
participating in other fundraising events throughout the
year. A big project coming up is the rebuilding of the poul-
try barns on the Society grounds. The Society is open to
ideas for fundraising for this major project.
If you would like a project this summer, think about
helping out at Whitefield Farm to learn about organic
farming first-hand. The Morrisons will be hiring interns. If
you are interested in that aspect of the venture, look
online at Canada hiring sites for applications.
V -Day Lucknow is a fundraiser coming up in early Feb-
ruary. Be sure to read the article to learn about this event
and the parent movement that it supports. While SCAW
helps needy children get a good night's sleep, V -Day
events raise funds and awareness surrounding violence
against women and girls around the world.
I would like to thank the ladies who wish to remain name-
less that submitted the story about the storm of 1971.1
remember that specific storm myself, having been storm -
stayed at a teacher's home in Dundalk for 3 days when it swept
through Grey County, as well. We could not make it the 9
miles (it was still miles at that point) home to Hopeville. For
those in the younger generations, stories like this help to illus-
trate just how powerful a storm can be. It can literally hold
people hostage in order to stay safe. This is why the extensive
bus cancellation protocols have been implemented and
advice is given each winter on how to be prepared for such
emergencies. It is generally better to be storm -stayed at home
with all the amenities, than to be trapped in a facility that is
meant for daytime use and not for overnight accommodation.
It was interesting to watch the demolition of the homes
on Wheeler Street. That is the first time that I had seen
one close enough to watch the progression.
If you have interesting photos or stories you would like to share,
please send them and and photos in jpg format to lucknow.edi-
torial@sunmedia.ca. I look forward to your submissions.

Ruth Dobrensky
Last Wednesday, the Lucknow
Sepoy Ranees were invited to a
pot-lucklunch at Huron Haven by
the Huron Haven Happy Hatters,
and a great lunch it was too. The
HHHH also invited the Ladies of
the Lake at Meneset who are the
infamous ladies who created a
nude calendar a few years back.
They are currently in the process
of creating another calendar, (not
in the nude). A young man called
the phone number on the ad to
order six calendars and got the
husband of the lady in charge of
orders, when the husband told the
young man that the ladies in the
calendar were all over 60, the
young man hung up.
This is Alzheimer Awareness
month and there has been a lot of
information in the papers and on
the TV about the disease and how
to deal with it when either you or a
loved one is diagnosed with it.
One of the most important things
I have learned from all of this, is to
have a power of attomey and an
up-to-date and valid will just in
case something happens and you
are no longer able to handle
important decisions for yourself.
So look after yourself, but most
importantly, make sure that you
have plans in place with family or
friends and a lawyer, just in case.
The cold weather has been
bone chilling, but, the amount of
snowfall has been minimal, mak-
ing
aking the getting around a lot easier
this last week or so. It was so nice
for a few days that if you just
looked up at the lovely blue sky,
you'd never know it was winter
Because of this lovely cold
weather, it's the time of year
when I always want to eat hearty
soups and stews and casseroles
with lots of veggies and a bit of
heat. So I think I'll go home and
make somethingwarm and com-
forting to keep both my insides
and outsides nice and warm.

The next free movie at
the Lucknow Library will be
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"
(TMNT). Movie starts at 6:30
pm on January 28th.
TMNT is an action -packed
thriller based on the iconic car-
toon series.
Storyline: Darkness has settled
over New York City as Shredder
and his evil Foot Clan have an
iron grip on everything from the
police to the politicians. The
future is grim until four unlikely
outcast brothers rise from the
sewers and discover their destiny
as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The Turtles must work with fear-
less reporter April O'Neil and her
cameraman Vern Fenwick to save
the city and unravel Shredder's
diabolical plan.
As you can probably imagine
there is a lot of kicking and
whacking and so on in a movie of
this type, so it is not intended for
little ones despite the marketing.
Next up will be "Dolphin Tale
2" on February llth. It is
a heart-warming family -
friendly tale. Following that
will be the Oscar nominated
"Boyhood" on Feb 25th.
See you at the movies

Shag Campbell
Well here we are almost the
end of January. Spring is only a
few weeks away and there is
not much news. People must
all be hibernating.
Sunday, January 25th is the
celebration of Robbie Burns
birthday and renowned Scottish
poet. A good time to have a "wee
dram" to warm up your insides.
On January 14th, Shag and
Joan Campbell spent another
enjoyable dinner hour at the
Maitland Restaurant in Wingham
with Lyle and Yvonne Youngblut.
Don't forget Ron Brindley's
snowmobile fun day of Sunday
February 8th.
The coffee hour on Thursdays
at the Dungannon Senior Cen-
tre has been cancelled for now
but there is still euchre at 1 p.m.
