Submitted
The Ripley Wolves will add
another three names to its
Wall of Fame at its final
home game of the regular
season, on Jan. 25.
Marina Cameron, Pat
Chatham and Jane VanSickle
will be honoured for their
years of work and dedication
when the Wolves face Shal-
low Lake on Saturday, Jan.
24, at 7:30 p.m.
Since the team returned to
the WOAA Senior' A' league
in 2002, Pat and Marina have
been the first smiling faces
fans see when they enter the
arena, rarely missing a game
over the past decade. Work-
ing the gate is often a cold
and thankless job, but Pat
and Marina never miss a
shift. Without their commit-
ment, the Wolves executive
would be constantly scram-
bling for volunteers, and we
cannot thank them enough
for their dedication to our
hockey team.
Jane VanSickle was one of
the original members of the
Wolves executive when the
team was resurrected in '02.
Jane worked diligently to
recruit sponsors, convincing
them the team was back in
business and loaded with
local talent. After dropping
out of the league after a few
down years, regaining the
trust of our local sponsors
was a daunting task, and
Jane went above and beyond
behind the scenes, as the
roster began to fill out.
Jane also served as the
Wolves' secretary, keeping
the new executive on track in
its early days and helping to
lay a strong foundation that
the current executive still
relies on today.
The final home game will
also be Sponsor Apprecia-
tion Night, so we invite all of
m
e
our fantastic sponsors to the
rink to watch what should
be a showdown for top seed
in the Senior 'A' playoffs,
which will be in a round-
robin format of six teams
(including two from the
WOAA Senior A's South
Division). The teams will
play five round-robin
games, with the Top 4
advancing to seven -game
semi-finals beginning in
March, with the winner
decided in April. Currently,
the Wolves sit in second in
the 'A' pool, trailing Shallow
Lake by two points with five
games to play.
Lucknow Lancers Report W°^,^Seniors p^
Dicky Dunn
The Lucknow Lancers
played two tough games this
past weekend against Sau-
geen Shores and
Mapleton -Minto.
The team travelled to Port
Elgin on Friday night and
played very well. The score
was 4 - 2 late in the third
period however some late
power play goals gave Sau-
geen the 7 - 2 win. Jamael
Jacklin played well in net.
On Sunday the team trav-
elled to Palmerston. The
game was again close until
late when the Lancers got
into penalty trouble. Final
score was 7 - 3. Blake Smith
was sharp in net. The game
was a lot closer than the
score indicated and the team
is showing signs of improv-
ing. When they play an
entire 60 minutes they are a
very difficult team to play.
Goal scorers for the week-
end were Joel Alton, Evan
Ducharme, John Chappell
and Tanner Simpson. Rick
Andrew, Brett Binning,
Brandon Dykxhoorn, Joel
Alton, Shawn Moore, Jake
Bruce, Tucker Dorscht, and
Jamie Miller picked up
assists.
This weekend the Lancers
host Durham. There is a lot
taking place that night. It is
Minor Hockey night. Every
minor hockey player wear-
ing a jersey gets free admis-
sion into the game. There
will also be an initiation
game, chuck -a -puck, and
Sepoy Catering will be serv-
ing up delicious food
also. The action begins at 5
pm with an alumni
game. The 1989 Champion-
ship Lucknow Lancers will
play the 1989 Lions Head
Alumni team. It should be a
great night for hockey! Hope
to see everyone on Saturday
night.
Sunday, February 1 at 2:30
pm is sponsor appreciation
night.
Cell Phone 911 Calls Continue
to Tie Up Emergency Services
"Lock it in Your
Pocket"
South Bruce OPP
The South Bruce Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP)
responded to 605 of 911
calls between January 1,
2014 and December 31,
2014. Of these 605 calls, 6
(1%) were actual emergen-
cies. To clarify, the South
Bruce OPP answered more
than 10,400 calls for service
in 2014. 599 non -emergent
calls made to 911 in 2014
are itemized in this release.
Cell phone accidental or
"pocket dial" calls
accounted for 332 (55%) of
the 911 calls that the South
Bruce OPP responded to in
2014. This is up slightly from
2013 when officers
responded to 323 cell phone
calls which made up 56% of
all 911 calls for the year.
The remaining 267 calls to
911 in 2014: 184 (30%) acci-
dental/misdial such as pro-
gramming an auto dialer,
attempting to call an over-
seas number; 48 (8%) child
playing with the phone; 35
(6%) phone line trouble.
How this compares to
911 calls received in 2013:
128 (22%) accidental/mis-
dial: 79 (14%) child playing
with the phone; 39 (7%)
phone line trouble.
"Cell phone "pocket
dials" continue to be an
issue for emergency
responders. When 911 is
called, emergency person-
nel will be dispatched. This
represents a significant cost
for rate payers, but the
potential harm is much
greater if an emergency
responder is delayed get-
ting to someone that needs
immediate assistance. Act-
ing Inspector Wayne
Thompson, Detachment
Commander, South Bruce
OPP urges you to "Lock it in
your pocket': He expands
on this by saying, "Lock
your cellphone keypad
when you aren't using it
and save 911 for those that
truly need it."
