Of note lastweekwas the LucknowCom- munity Christian Reformed Church being able to return to worship in their newly ren- ovated building after having to carryon their worship and activities in other com- munityvenues due to fire damage. This cooperation and support between congre- gations is nothing new to this area. As one church celebrates the return to their worship space, another congregation struggles with the loss of theirs. It was a bit- tersweet service at the Deconsecration of St Peter's Anglican Church in Lucknow. Dungannon and St. Helen's NewsSt. Helen's News Shag Campbell On January 8th there was no coffee hour or cards at the Dungannon Senior Centre due to furnace repairs. There are snowmobiles running all over the neighbourhood. Many of the trails are now open due to plenty or snow during the last week The Nine Mile River is now closed to fishing as well as the Maitland River above the High- way 21 bridge until the fourth Saturday in April. Most roads in this area were closed last week except those around St. Helen's where the horses and buggies take control. Ron Brindley is having a fun day on February 8 for snowmobilers. The kids in the area got a longer holiday than expected with the schools closed and no buses running. Got some news? Call Shag Campbell at 519-529-7734 Lucknow PresbyterianWMS Erlma Haldenby In January members met at the River Valley Apts. With Marj MacLeod and Lois Farrish as hostesses. Shirley Hawthorne welcomed everyone with a poem, "A Sure Way to a Happy Day:' The meditation, "On Eagle's Wings" with suit- able hymns and scriptures was given. The Maitland Presbytery will be held in Wingham on January 19 and we will have the "In Memorium': A discussion to join Ripley WMS for some meetings followed as we are both small groups. Shirley had the program from the "Glad Tid- ings" on inclusive workship services, from tod- dler to seniors, as related by some WMS members. The statement, "Mission happens right where I am," was agreed on by all. Joanne Lennips presented Shirley Hawthorne with an honourary membership from Maitland Presbytery. Shirley thanked us by telling some early memories of her life before and after joining LucknowWMS, some forty -plus years before. A delicious lunch and time of fellowship fol- lowed the hymn and grace. Norma Raynard thanked the hostesses. Lucknow News Ruth Dobrensky Beware of candles in glass containers. I got such a one for Christmas and I finally lit it last week and guess what, it blew up. Well, not quite, but it did make a funny noise and half the glass container and candle ended up on my table, for- tunately, the candle put itself out, so I just had a wax and glass mess to clean up. Speaking of Christmas gifts, I got quite a few gift cards and am thinking of doing one day of shopping with just gift cards to see how much stuff I can buy, it should be a fun experiment. The Lucknow SepoyRanees spent a wonderful Thursday last week with the Teeswater Lilies at the Cozy in Teeswater for a great Robbie Burns luncheon. Almost all of the Teeswater Lilies were decked out in highland garb. The tables were set with tartan table runners, Robbie Burns place mats, tartan napkins and the entire room was decorated with all things Scottish. Several Ranees also wore tartan and/or kilts along with Scottish jewellery. Not to be outdone, I took my Scottish passportwith an expiration date of the "Day after Doomsday': We had a great time enjoying the lunch accompanied by Scottish music, Burns' poetry and jokes. One lucky red hatter won a small bottle of Scotch. Now that St. Peter's has closed, I've been ven- turing over to Wingham to our Anglican Church there for Sunday services and have noted that they don't keep the streets in Wmgham nearly so well cleaned as the streets in Lucknow. Well done Lucknow and area road graders, you have my vote for sure. Sympathy of the community to the families of: Isobel Brook, 88, Lucknow (formerly Ripley); Ruth King, 89, Wingham; Robert Reaman, 58, Whitechurch; and Margaret LeGrand, 83, Teeswater.
