Dave is working as a building inspector in Christchurch as that city continues to recover from a devastating earthquake which occurred on February 22, 2011. Maitland Trail Association Sponsors Art to Celebrate 40th Year Goderich Co -Op Gallery Submitted During January, Febru- ary, and March, the Mait- land Trail Association will bring artists renowned for celebrating our forests to the Goderich Co-op Gal- lery. This show will open Saturday, January 10, 2015 with friends, artists, and members of both groups attending. Dignitaries will open the show at 2 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Susan Hay, Devin Surgeon. Bill Creighton, Madeleine Roske, Clarence Denomme, Anne Lavio- lette and Ron Walker will all have works in this show. On July 2, 1965, a group was formed which pro- posed building a trail all along the Maitland river from Goderich to Wing - ham. However that task was too ambitious for the new group and instead it focused on the 48 km. trail from Goderich to Auburn. The liaison and permis- sions with and from the landowners was the first important step. Trail crea- tion and maintenance con- tinues to the present with scores of keen volunteers donating their time and energy to keep the trails accessible and safe. There is an impressive list of trail rangers who monitor the conditions of their section of the trail doing minor repairs while recording major work to be addressed in the future by a larger group of workers. This group maintains other local trails totaling 80 km! The MTA hosts dozens of hikes and ski/snowshoe outings and nature stud- ies throughout the year. The largest End to End hike in the MTA history was the Camino -Maitland hike. After two successful hikes, a third is planned for 2015. The MTA's detailed Trail Guide is a great help to hikers. The first edition was published in July 2000 to celebrate its 25th anni- versary. The third edition will be a special 40th anni- versry celebration edition to be released in early 2015.
