Church Restoration
Nearly Completed
Lucknow Community Christian
Reformed Church
Submitted
It's been four months
since the Lucknow Commu-
nity Christian Reformed
Church was damaged by fire
and restoration work has
now nearly been completed.
According to the church's
pastor, Ken deBoer, what was
actually quite a small fire
caused a tremendous
amount of smoke and water
damage. Work has been
going on steadily, first
removing the old damaged
materials, and then putting
the church back together.
Almost the entire interior
has been repainted and carpet
has been replaced. Areas
nearer the fire were totally
removed and replaced.
The congregation has
been meeting in the other
churches in town with their
worship services in the Pres-
byterian Church and pro-
grams going in on the United
and Anglican churches.
Pastor deBoer says that
while the congregation has
been overwhelmed by the
hospitality of the other con-
gregations in town, they are
really looking forward to
being "home" again.

Big Changes Afoot for the Alice Munro Festival
New Name, New Dates and New
Co -Directors Announced to Lead 2015
Submitted
The Alice Munro Festival
was developed, in the Town-
ship of North Huron in 2003,
by the Wingham and Area
Historical Society to honour
the body of work created by
Alice Munro. In 2009, the
Festival went into abeyance
for three years before it was
revitalized as the Alice
Munro Writers and Readers
Festival in 2012. Over three
years the Festival created
unique literary events,
attracted international visi-
tors and grew participation
in the annual Short Story
Competition by 500%. In fall
2013, Alice Munro won the
Nobel Prize for Litera-
ture. Stakeholders came

together to explore opportu-
nities to drive economic
development initiatives by
leveraging Ms. Munro's
international stand-
ing. Guided by an outside
consultant, the Festival is
again choosing new dates
and a new name for 2015
and beyond.
The "Alice Munro Festival
of the Short Story" is an
annual three-day festival
dedicated to nurturing
emerging writers of the short
story and to developing an
audience for the literary
form that earned Alice
Munro the Nobel Prize in
Literature. Under the leader-
ship and vision of Mary
Wolfe and Mary Brown - Fes-
tival co -Directors - the Festi-
val will take place the first
weekend in June annually
beginning June 5-7, 2015.
"In 2015 the Festival will
have enormous opportunity
to attract high profile writers
of short fiction thanks to
one-time funding through
the Ministry of Training,
Universities and Colleges
and a local Labour Market
Partnership grant," reported
outgoing Chair, Karen
Stewart. The Directors will
receive an honorarium to
lead the Festival previously
produced by volunteers.
"This change in structure
allows the Festival to grow in
new ways," says Stewart.
"Mary Brown and Mary
Wolfe are the perfect co -
Directors, as both have cre-
ated and produced the pop-
ular Bayfield Writers Festival
when independent owners
of the Village Bookshop in
Bayfield. Their contacts in
publishing will be invaluable
in their new roles."
The popular Short Story
Competition will remain a
key focus of this Festival.
Competition guidelines,
deadlines and full details of
the weekend's new events
will be announced in late
January.
The Alice Munro Festival
operates as a sub -committee
of the Township of North
Huron. It is supported, in
part, by Howick Mutual
Insurance Company, How-
son & Howson Ltd., Royal
Homes Ltd., Stainton's
Home Hardware and other
supporting organizations,
businesses and individuals.
