2015 New Years Day Levee
Lucknow Legion
Branch 309 Levee
Valerie Gillies
Editor, Lucknow Sentinel
The 2015 New Years Day Levee
hosted by Lucknow Legion Branch
309 President Craig Crawford was
well attended.
Lorna Guay explained that the
Levee is the Legion's way of salut-
ing the community and is all about
community. She commented that
there were some families present
who had 3 generations in the
Legion which illustrates the con-
tinuation of tradition. Guay
quipped, "There are even 2 Legion
members here that I used to
babysit."
Councillor Lillian Abbott
stated, "I would like to wish all
Huron -Kinloss constituents a
Happy New Year. It is great to see
both young and seasoned sharing
good times."
Delores Sokoloski with Brenda
Cather agree that the Levee is a
good tradition and a great way to
start the New Year. They would like
to congratulate the Legion Presi-
dent Craig Crawford for putting it
on, as he is the one who is respon-
sible for all of the preparations for
this event.
Joyce Robinson and her hus-
band were visiting from Thorn -
dale. She remarked, "A Levee is
always a good way to start a New
Year. The Lucknow Legion one is
in the tradition that it was meant
to be as levees started with the
military as a way to include sol-
diers who were not at home in cel-
ebrating the New Year."
Elaine Errington comments
with a smile that, "It is fun to chat
with friends and wish everyone a
Happy New Year. But one thing I
do miss is the New Years Eve
dances the Legion used to put on
with Tiffin's Orchestra."
As one of the youngest Legion
Members, Graham Finlay is seen
as the future of the Legion and its
traditions. He confirms, "In the
future I hope that this tradition of
the New Years Day Levee
continues."
