Al Crawford of Hanover provided
the musical entertainment for Wing
Night on February 7, 2015 at the Luc -
know Legion.
Crawford has been playing for
almost 40 years and has a variety of
songs and genres. He says of his rep-
ertoire that "everything is from the
last century" adding that this is
because that is when there were "lyr-
ics and the music to go with it."
In describing his music choices
Crawford explains that when you go
to most places that have bands that
play covers, it seems they are all

playing the same songs. Crawford
chooses to perform mostly the ones
the other bands do not play. They are
still good songs that are very popular,
just not the ones the Top 40's Bands
play. It is evident that he knows what
he is talking about by the apprecia-
tion from the crowd. There was sing-
ing along and dancing to accompany
the smiles and tapping toes at the
tables as the night progressed.
Crawford has done most of his
performing as a member of the band
Late Nite Radio, well known through-
out Grey and Bruce Counties. The
band plays the larger venues, events
and parties. Now Crawford also does
gigs as a single performer with his
guitar and recorded tracks for
accompaniment.
As a musician, 2014 was Craw -
ford's busiest year to date. Most of
those bookings were as a single
performer. Times have changed and
venues and events have changed
how they choose entertainment.
Some have smaller spaces to set up
and most want the more affordable
entertainers who perform solo,
rather than paying for full bands.
In the past couple of years the
bookings that Crawford most enjoys
are the ones for seniors. They want
someone to come for an hour and
are there specifically to be enter-
tained. They are engaged and appre-
ciative, not like large venues and big
parties that go on for several hours,
but nobody really seems to be there
to listen. Crawford is quite happy to
let others take those bookings now.
He has been in music long enough to
know what he wants to do and that is
to stay closer to home and to play to
people who enjoy his performances,
either in the band or as a single act.
