Family Day
2015
Valerie Gillies
Editor, Lucknow Sentinel
This year Family Day falls
on February 16, 2015. Many
families are planning special
activities to share to cele-
brate this holiday. Family
Day is not a Canada -wide
statutory holiday which
means that Federal employ-
ees do not get the day off.
As a Provincial holiday,
there are only five provinces
who observe Family Day.
Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario
and Saskatchewan will all
observe Family Day on Feb-
ruary 16, while in British
Columbia it will have been
observed February 9.
Two other Canadian prov-
inces have holidays in Feb-
ruary. Prince Edward Island
celebrates Islander Day on
the 3rd Monday, which will
be February 16, while Mani-
toba sets aside the 3rd Mon-
day as Louis Riel Day.

"Common Family Day activi-
ties include skating, playing
hockey, snowboarding/ski-
ing and going to various win-
ter festivals. But the best best
thing about Family Day must
be beaver tails and stuffing
ourselves silly with pancakes
with maple syrup!"
