Council made the deci- sion to grant the club the funds on Dec. 14, 2015, so it can reserve the pyrotechnics for its Point Clark Canada Day fireworks fundraiser. The service club's president Brad Hand and treasurer John Yungblut told council it requires the financial backing, and security, of the municipal- ity to go forward with the Can- ada Day festivities at Point Clark. The event is the Lion's most important fundraiser. "We've never had to ask the township before," Hand said. "Our group's gotten smaller. There was a bit of a loss last year. We just don't have the Speeder caught with A 27 -year-old man from Ash- field-Colborne-Wawanosh is facing a criminal code charge of "Drive Motor Vehicle - Over 80 Milligrams" following a traffic stop. Police said just after 9 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2015 a Huron County OPP officer observed a GMC Savannah van travelling south- bound on Base Line, speeding capital funds right now in our activity account or public fund for money to actually put deposits down." The club is currently seeking grants and courting corporate sponsors. However, the pyro- technics have to be reserved by February at the latest, and the club just doesn't have the money, Hand said. Also, they will only hear back about about the grants a couple weeks before the event This request comes off a rained out July 1 last year that caused the club to come in at a loss of $750, which then had to be covered by money raised to be donated, Hand said in a fol- low-up telephone interview. "Our hope is to get the grant that we expect, and have a good day, and make some money ... but if we're going to go through with this, we're not willing to risk money on it," booze, drunk driving well in excess of the posted 80 km/h zone. The driver was stopped and during the interaction with the driver the officer noticed open alcohol inside the vehicle. The officer also had reasons to believe the driver had con- sumed some alcohol thus a demand for the roadside screening device was made. Treasurer Yungblut said, elab- orating that profits from the fireworks go to help various causes in the township. Hand said much of the money they make from the July 1 event is from donations collect on the beach, so the best case scenario is they are able to pay the municipality back the following day. If we have another rainy day, if we don't get the grant, we can't sustain that economic environment," Yungblut said. Councillor Jim Hanna com- mended the group for its work, but said he is unwilling to open public coffers for the event. "I think what you're doing is wonderful. I'm not willing to put taxpayers' money into. That's me. The rest of council can do what they like ... I'll be willing to finance you, but with no guarantee that you get to keep the money:' The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of his breath, resulting in a fail. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two sam- ples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both samples registered over the legal limit. Bruce, Brian and the staff of Robert's Farm Equipment and ((tots% `o lss meat Geae- Thank you for your patronage in 2015.
