Lucknow Pay it Forward founder wants Lucknow Sentinel
to make sure 'everybody gets something'
Mitten Tree a
success in 2015

"I use to work at Pinecrest and I
thought, 'why not?' And I tried it
and I didn't know what the
response would be, and it was actu-
ally really, really good. Everybody
got a couple things," she recalled
from last year's event.
And, she humbly offered, organ-
izing it wasn't that big of a deal.
"I just went to TPI ... My son and
their daughter are dating. And I
asked them to put a box in and they
said no problem, she said. `:..That's
all I did. It's not like a lot ofwork"
Though she wasn't at the manor
last Dec. 25 when its elderly resi-
dents opened their gifts, she was
told that the families were happy to
see the community support.
"The families were very pleased. I
think everyone had a lot of smiles
on their faces;' she said.
And that's the purpose of this

good in the community.
campaign, she explained. Families
are busy, she said, and some at
Pinecrest don't have any families to
spend the holiday with. The Pay it
Forward is just to make sure "every-
body gets something"
"That's kind of my goal. That was
it. It wasn't to stand out or anything.
It was basically to do something,"
she said. `...This world has gone
crazy, you know? I just don't want
anyone left out"

Happy late 90th birth-
day to Joyce Johnstone
who celebrated last week.
We wish you many more
Joyce.
Speaking of birthdays,
perhaps because I myself
am getting old, I just real-
ized the other day that
when I celebrate my 69th
birthday shortly, my
nephew Chris Dobrensky
(actually my cousin's son)
will be celebrating his
50th, as he was born on
my 19th birthday. Not
only did I almost forget
my own big day but that
my "little Chris" will be
50, is enough to make me
feel my actual age.
The St. Peter's ACW is
still active even though
the church has closed
and they have recently
collected gifts and cloth-
ing for a single mother
and her two young
daughters. This is a pro-
ject the ladies have been
involved in for several
years and one for which
they should be highly
commended.
We recently heard from
Donald Trump (again)
about the dangers of let-
ting Muslim refugees into
the U.S. (and Canada)
bringing forth memories
of policies that our two
countries have had over
the years for letting in for-
eigners. First it was, don't
let in the Irish, then the
eastern Europeans, then
the Jews, then the Japa-
nese, then the Vietnam-
ese boat people, now it's
the Muslims. The town of
Wingham is sponsoring a
Syrian family to come to
Canada and they are
expected sometime after
the new year. Just remem-
ber, before you condemn
any new immigrants to
Canada, unless you are a
100% native Canadian,
we are all children of
immigrants and refugees
and have no right to deny
them what our families
were given when they
arrived here.
Thanks to all who
donated to the Mitten
Tree, all those mittens,
scarves and hats will be
put to good use.
Just nine shopping
days until Christmas, if
you haven't started, get a
move on. I'd like a new
car if you're thinking of
buying me something.
Sympathy of the com-
munity to the families of:
Alex Zbeetnoff, 88 Wing -
ham; and, George Collin-
son, 73, Goderich.
