Huron -Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson is at the Climate Summit in
Paris, as part of the COP21 discussions.
MPP Thompson invited to join
climate change discussion
MPP Thompson has been
invited by the Minister for the
Environment and Climate
Change to join the Canadian
delegation at the Climate
Summit in Paris, and to par-
ticipate in the conversation
on climate change.
As part of the COP21 dis-
cussions, the issue of Cap -
and -Trade will be forefront
on Thompson's agenda.
"The government is deter-
mined to introduce a Cap
and Trade program in 2017,
and given this government's
past blunders, I worry their
Cap -and -Trade scheme may
end up like eHealth, Ornge or
their botched Green Energy
Plan," said Thompson. "If we
are going to do this, we need
to get it right. I want to learn
from other jurisdictions what
worked, and what had to be
fixed when the European
Cap -and -Trade process
P
failed the first time':
This year's conference is
anticipated to attract close to
50,000 participants including
25,000 official delegates from
government, intergovern-
mental organisations, UN
agencies, NGOs and civil
society.
"Climate and environment
issues affect us all, whether
we live here in Ontario, in
China or the United King-
dom. It is imperative that we
all take part in the discus-
sion;' said Thompson. "I plan
to observe the conference
proceedings and monitor the
tone and position the
Ontario government sets on
the world stage':

Clear library fines
and help local food banks
Do you have a few overdue fines
on your library card?
Clear off some of those pesky
fines by bringing a non-perishable
food item to the library during the
annual "Food for Fines" campaign
Dec. 14-20.
One item is the equivalent of $2
in fines. Fines can be cleared to a
maximum of $10. The Library will
also accept food donations from
those who simply wish to contrib-
ute to the local food bank.
Last year, Bruce County Public
Library cleared over $300 in fines
with this program and our staff
delivered the items to area food
banks just in time for the holidays.
Food for Fines supports the
Library's goal to ease barriers that
may be limiting our residents from
using Library resources and ser-
vices, while contributing to an
important need in our
communities.
Non-perishable food items can
be dropped off at any Bruce County
Public Library branch during open
hours. Please check our website at
www.library.brucecounty.on.ca or
call your local library branch for
further details.
