relief effort in the wake of Owen
Sound arson spree
Community

Grey Bruce
A generous grant from the
Eva Leflar Donor Advised
Fund through Community
Foundation Grey Bruce
means significant aid for the
displaced families who were
the victims of a multiple site
fire in Owen Sound this week.
The announcement of the
$10,000 donation was made
at the Bruce Grey United
Way's Fire Victims Radiothon
on August 14, a fundraising
initiative to provide much
needed relief to 45 people
displaced by the fires that
shocked Owen Sound's east
end this past Monday morn-
ing. At least seven families
were uninsured, and as many
as nine children were directly
affected by the disaster.

The donation comes from
the Eva Leflar Donor
Advised Endowment Fund,
which provides perpetual
support to disadvantaged
children and families in Grey
and Bruce Counties.
"Eva spent most of her life
in Owen Sound. She cared
deeply for children, and tire-
lessly supported charitable
efforts to ease the suffering
of local families facing the
barriers that come with sys-
temic poverty. Both the
Foundation and Eva's advi-
sors feel strongly that this
gesture would have met with
her strong support and
speaks to her wish to better
the lives of children and
families in need," said Kim-
berley West, Foundation
Chair.
"Owen Sound is facing a
tragedy. But we are a gener-
ous and resilient people who
are lining up to help those
affected by this fire. We have
something that outweighs
the negativity this disaster
has brought to our door. We
have a community that has
each other's backs in times
of trouble. That is treasured
by our Foundation as much
as our ability to be a small
piece of the solution today,"
said Aly Boltman, Executive
Director.
