Competitive spirit
alive and well
Looking over this
week's edition of
the Sentinel the one
word that came to mind
right away was
"competition':
Congratulations to
the Lucknow Ul 1 Boys
for their Silver win in
soccer.
It seems when the Luc -
know Men's Slo-Pitch
League decided to divide
their All Star players as
evenly as possible across
teams, they did just that!
It was a beautiful night
for a game and the finish
was a close one.
Congratulations to the
students who won the
2015 scholarships from
Bruce Power.
Despite the storm the
night before, the Luc -
know 4-H Invitational
Dairy Show was a success
with competitors from 14
counties. That is quite the
accolade for our little vil-
lage, both in hosting and
in the number of com-
petitors it draws.
There are several types
of competitons in this
edition that are still to be
held.
Of course, we are all
aware of the announce-
ment of the federal elec-
tion. Thank you to Steve
Goetz at the Kincardine
News for interviewing
our local candidates.
There are competitions
for grant money for busi-
nesses through Commu-
nity Futures Grey Bruce
as well as the Next Gen
Den competiton through
Huron Business Develop-
ment Corp.
Bruce Power is invit-
ing teams to register for
their firefighters compe-
tition on Labour Day
weekend.
Several fall fairs are on
the horizon, including
our own Lucknow Fall
Fair coming up mid Sep-
tember. Remember that
this year the Little Mud -
der will be held early to
allow those competitors
to enjoy the remainder of
the fair, as well as allow-
ing fairgoers to watch the
Little Mudder competi-
tion without scheduling
conflicts with fair events.
Although the
Wawanosh Pollinators
were not competing, it
made me immediately
smile when I saw the
photo submitted of the
Beewaggle. Perhaps this
should be a new demon-
stration at the fair. It
could be an interactive
display inviting fairgoers
to join in.
Yes, the fall events and
festivals are in the works,
but first the Kinsmen's
biggest event, Lucknow's
Music in the Fields will
bring crowds to
Lucknow.
Enjoy what is left of the
summer knowing that it
is not the end to fun
events, just a time to
shift gears from fun in
the sun to celebrating
the harvest. Oh, that can
be the best and tastiest
part... enjoying the har-
vest... I know that cer-
tainly made for competi-
tion at our dinner table
when my boys were still
at home!

Decorate your yard, lane or
business
With this year's Lucknow Fall
Fair theme being "Country
Bumpkins, Harvest Pumpkins
there's no reason to have to
think too hard for decorating
ideas.
The fair board would love this
year's fair, September 18, 19 and
20, to have the largest
number of entries in the above
categories. And we know Eliza-
beth Irvin would be overjoyed
to be overrun with the
number of places to visit and
judge!
It's pretty simple: your display
must include these words: Luc -
know Fall Fair, September 18,
19, 20, Country Bumpkins, Har-
vest Pumpkins. The rest is up to
you ... let your imagination run
wild!
You must register by Aug. 29,
and your display must be ready
for judging by Sept. 7.
Get your ideas together - the
prize money is sim-
ply fabulous - $50, $30, $20,
$10 for the business
category and for the residential
category!

Clandonald Reunion 2015
Joan Dleuze
On Saturday, August 1, just
over 30 descendants of Donald
Steward MacDonald and Mary
Jane Stewart gathered on the
grounds of Clandonald Farm,
Lucknow for their biennial family
reunion.
Joan MacDonald Dleuze of
Toronto and her nephews
Donald from George-
town, Scott from Sudbury and
Ian from Brooklin hosted the
event.
President Johanna Gander and
Secretary Maureen Bortnick,
both of Georgetown, supervised
children's games as the adults
visited in beautiful summer
weather.
Guests enjoyed a potluck sup-
per on the lawn followed by a
business meeting. As in 2013,
Mary Jane Wickham and Ross
MacDonald, both from
Windsor, were the oldest
participants.
The passing of Reva MacDonald,
Stratford, and Doreen MacDonald,
Bracebridge in spring 2015 was
recognized.
Several happy events were
also noted: the high school
graduation of Hana Joan Mac-
Donald, Georgetown; the July
wedding of Ainslie deBoer, Luc -
know; the summer volunteer
service of Lucknow's Erin Gil-
christ to provide well water in
Kenya.
Brenden MacDonald and his
father Scott MacDonald of Sud-
bury agree to be president and
secretary respectively at the
next Clandonald Reunion
in 2017.
