Sheep Club

The third meeting of the
Lucknow 4-H Sheep Club
was called to order at 7 pm
on July 14, 2015 at the farm
of Keith and Valerie Todd.
President Jessalyn Hendricks
opened the meeting with the
4-H pledge.
Roll Call was: What is your
lamb eating and how much?
Secretary Sarah Durnin
went over the minutes of the
previous meeting. Next,
Press Reporter Emily Bie-
man gave the news report of
the previous meeting.
Leaders Keith Todd and
Joan Finlay reminded mem-
bers of fair, shearing and
barn tour dates. Leader
Keith Todd then took mem-
bers on a tour of the barn.
Next, members were given
tips on how to show their
lambs. 4-H members then
judged breeding ewe lambs
and looked at a record keeping
system, while the Cloverbuds
did a farm safety activity.
The meeting was then
closed with the 4-H motto
and members enjoyed a
snack of pretzels and water-
melon slices.
Huron County 4-H Go For The Gold competition

On Wednesday, July 15,
2015, Huron County 4-H Lead-
ers' Association hosted the
local Go For The Gold Compe-
tition at The Clinton United
Church in Clinton at 7:30 pm.
Only three teams partici-
pated. They were Sheep 1 and
Sheep 2, both from the South
Huron Sheep Club and the
Wawanosh Life Skill Club.
Each team played two games
each with the two top scoring
teams playing for the title,
Sheep 1 and Wawanosh.
The team members
answered 4-H related ques-
tions ranging from baking to
livestock, and photography to
camping. A few current event
questions were also included.
Both teams will move on
to the regional competition
on August 19 at the Knox
Presbyterian Church in Lis-
towel. Teams from Huron,
Perth, Grey and Bruce
County will compete. The
winner of the regional com-
petition will compete at the
provincial level in November
at the Royal Winter Fair.

Wawanosh 4-H Pollinators meet

Meeting One of the
Wawanosh Pollinators club
was held on Tuesday July 21
at 7pm at the Wingham
Community Garden. The
members got right to work
in the garden when they
arrived. The club was bro-
ken into teams that were all
tending to different section
of the garden. Once the
weeding was done and the
produce had been har-
vested then brought over to
the North Huron Food
Share, the club moved their
meeting over to Cruick-
shank Park.
Mary Ellen Foran officially
opened the meeting with the
4-H pledge and introduced
members to the importance
of pollinators in our lives.
Next the election of officers
was held. Gayle Mcllhargey
was elected president with
Jaxson Curran as her vice.
Amanda Morrison volun-
teered to be the cover
designer and Loretta and
Kate Higgins agreed to share
the job of Press Reporter.
Hillary Schramm was cho-
sen to be the attendance
recorder. Members will
share the task of writing up
the meeting minutes as

The newly elected presi-
dent, Gayle, led roll call
which was " Name a Pollina-
tor." The club then turned to
their book and learned
about cross-pollination vs
self-pollination. Members
were then told to find a quiet
spot alone and listen for dif-
ferent possible pollinators.
They returned and discussed
animals that pollinate plants,
such as birds and insects,
and other methods plants
become pollinated such as
water and wind.
Gayle closed the meeting
with the pledge and mem-
bers enjoyed a snack of
watermelon and lemonade.
The next meeting will be
held on Thursday July 30 at
7pm at the Jeffersons.
