Several pilots were testing their models and getting tips on flying them better the day before the Wingham Jets 2015 opened to the public. Jet Dog is well known at the RC Jets show in Wingham. Owner, Gary Arthur of Hamilton, explains that Albi, who was named after an albatross jet, is nicknamed Jet Dog and as she has been trained to quietly lie at Arthur's feet while he flies his jets. Her proper etiquette has earned Albi her own red pilot's wristband, necessary for anyone to be allowed in the pilot area at the runways with the pilots. July 24, 2015. Rookie pilot Brian Williams of London is "playing mechanic" to help out Jeff Decaluwe of the Wingham Jets. This is Williams' irst year flying turbines so he is nervous about flying them, but oyes to stay on the ground and play. This seems reasonable as Williams works in automotive manufacture. Wingham Jets 2015 hosts the biggest RC jets yet Annual Remote Control Jet rally Valerie Gillies Lucknow Sentinel The 7th Annual RC Jet Rally was held at the Richard W. LeVan Airport in Wing - ham on July 25 and 26, 2015. The show attracts Remote Control (RC) Jet pilots from Quebec, Ontario, New Jersey, Illinois and Michigan. The Wingham Jets 2015 show had 63 registered pilots. Admis- sion was per car, which showed attendance of 200 cars parked, as well as 30 campers, tents and trailers. Pilots begin arriving on the Friday evening, this year being August 24, to allow them time to practice flying and to trou- bleshoot their jets before the public arrives on Saturday and Sunday for the air shows. A long-time flyer, Gary Arthur has been at the Wing - ham show since it was started by Angus McDonald, former owner of Canadian Tire in Listowel. Approxi- mately four years ago McDonald stepped down as event organizer and Blaire Howkins has become Presi- dent of the Wingham Jets and event organizer. GODEF ICN 519 524 7813. These included family and friends of the Guelph Grem- lins Model Club and the Sky Harbor Model Club. Howkins would like to thank airport manager Rod Hickey for being very understanding and helpful. The pilots very much appreciate the cooper- ation and support from the township. In attendance from the Township of North Huron were Reeve Neil Vincent, Pat Newson and Denice Lockie. Arthur has been flying for 15 years. He stated that "every year the show is growing. The planes are getting bigger and nicer." Arthur's dog, Albi, named after an albatross jet, is so well trained around the planes that she has earned the title Jet Dog and has her own pilot's wristband allowing her to lie at Arthur's feet as he flies his jets. Only those who have the red wristbands are allowed in the pilot area at the runway. Jeff Decaluwe has been a member of the Wingham Jets for five years. He quips, "the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys." Decaluwe recom- mends that if someone wishes to get started with RC planes that they begin with propeller planes or simula- tors to avoid costly crashes. Sandro Novelli has been involved with the RC planes for over 30 years. As he worked on this plane he grinned and said the big joke around the pilots was that they had dubbed him "Double Shot": It started because he flies mainly twin engine jets, but the ribbing has become more predominant as he now has twin girls and he and his wife are expecting again and have been informed that it will be another set of twins.
