eral of her own songs which
are very personal and
inspirational.
Many door prize draws
were interspersed through
the program.
Joanne Goodwin is cur-
rently a full-time motiva-
tional speaker and a retired
pastor of the Strathroy Pen-
ticostal Church. Goodwin
in an entertaining speaker
who punctuates her heart -
touching stories with
humour. In describing her-
self she says, "everyone has
a gift and mine is being
pathetic." Goodwin's story
is one of living with mental
illness which was not diag-
nosed until later in life, her
faith journey and her fur-
ther challenges with her
daughter. Her main mes-
sage is that we should not
ask that the hardest chal-
lenges in our life be taken
away as, when you have
faith, God takes the gar-
bage, turns it into compost
and makes beautiful things
grow from it.
Following a lunch and
social break, the entertain-
ment continued with
Valerie Gillies singing two
songs that she has written.
Emma Fenders played
guitar and sang. Her sec-
ond song touched everyone
as she dedicated it to her
grandmother who had
always encouraged her to
sing in church. Fenders had
not done that while her
grandmother was alive, so
she announced that this
one song was to make up
for that.
Darcy Robinson showed
her prowess at step dancing
during her two numbers,
evoking a comment from
the MC Irwin that she
wished she could do that,
adding that it is never too
late to learn.
The short but comical
skit "Religious Bras" was
performed by members of
the Lucknow UCW. This
was a very fitting way to
round out a very much
enjoyed program for the
many ladies in attendance.
