You can stop the Red Blinking Lights
Until recently, many peo-
ple in our community were
under the impression that
nothing could be done about
the blinking red lights on the
industrial wind turbines that
dominate and pollute the
night sky north of Goderich.
This is far from the truth. The
issue with the red blinking
navigation lights was
brought up during the man-
datory Kingsbridge II open
houses. Several K2 repre-
sentatives told local resi-
dents that engineering
options were available,
including shielding, radar,
etc. This technology would
safely activate the red blink-
ing navigation lights when a
plane was in the immediate
area.
If K2 had implemented
this technology, this would
have drastically reduced
the distracting, irritating,
unsightly, blinking red
lights that now dominate
the night sky in ACW. The
lights are a problem, not
only for nearby residents,
but for anyone traveling
through the township. Resi-
dents are finding them to
be an extremely ugly intru-
sion into the landscape and
in their homes.
When asked why they did
not follow-up, the K2 man-
agement leader stated, there
was only one complaint from
one resident therefore; it
must not be an irritation to
most people and not worth
the expense to install the
equipment.
The K2 management
leader then stated if enough
people complained about
the navigation lights, K2 will
retro -fit the 140 turbines. K2
needs to hear loud and clear
that we do not like living,
vacationing and driving in
an area that looks like an air-
port runway!
For these big corpora-
tions, Samsung, Capital
Power and K2 to have an
engineering solution and
not implement it due to
more concern for "corpo-

North Huron Community Food Share
The North Huron Com-
munity Food Share pre-
sents...The Race Is On....Oh
Sorry, you didn't know
there was going to be a
race. You've heard of a 5-K
race, a 10-K race, the Bos-
ton Marathon, even the
Amazing Race on
television.
But how many people
have heard of a Zero K
"Non -Race" Race? That got
your attention, didn't it?
The North Huron Com-
munity Food Share is hav-
ing a unique Fund Raising
event. A "Fabulous Foot-
race Fundraiser For Food':
You don't want to repeat
that too often. There is no
actual race...just a Start/
Finish line...Step across the
line, you're done. Athletes
can enjoy themselves with-
out the sweat. Non -athletes
can revel in their poor field
performance. It's a race
anybody can enter, and
better yet...finish.
We need participants
who would like to be part
of a unique event. The fund
raising part? Like any other
event, you will need to get
sponsors to support you in
this very gruelling event.
We hope each participant
will be able to raise a mini-
mum of $25.00 in sponsors.
We are very fortunate
that we will be hosting this
event in conjunction with
Wingham's Muskrat Festi-
val. The Muskrat Festival
runs from June 12th to the
14th. We are holding our
race on Sunday afternoon
at Riverside Park, where all
the festival events also take
place. We even have
enlisted the help of Lisa
Thompson, our local MPP
as the "Official Starter':
Better yet, the first 50
entrants will receive (drum
roll please) a lukewarm
bottle of water and a cheap
white t -shirt, emblazoned
with our somewhat cheezy
logo. Who could ask for
more?
The event will go ahead
"Rain or Shine" on Sunday,
June 14th, at 1:00 pm with
registration from 11:30 -
12:45 before the event.
Concerned about a warm-
up before hand...don't
want to pull any muscles,
do we. In fact, we have
spared no expense (really
no expense at all) Carol
Phillips (that name strikes
profits" is unconscionable.
Please take 5 minutes to
contact K2 and tell them
you do not appreciate ACW
being turned into a "Red
Light District': They are
expecting your call.

fear into a lot of people)
will be doing warm-ups
prior to the race. Darn, I
almost forgot another
interesting twist. Costumes
as well as teams are not
only welcomed, but
encouraged... in fact there
will be prizes for the top
three costumes, as well as
the top three fund raisers.
An anonymous donor is
providing the shirts, water
and prizes. All monies
raised are to help stock the
Food Share through the
summer months, when
donations tend to fall off.
Interested...please con-
tact me at 519-357-4833 or
gdkaster@bell.net and I
will be happy, yes, even
delighted to get a registra-
tion kit to you.
The idea for this race
may be all fun....but the
needs of our Food Bank
and clients are no joking
matter!

grow, we thank you for

First Visit by First Birthday
An Important
Message for
Oral Health Month
from Grey Bruce
Health Unit
Submitted
"First Visit by First Birth-
day" stressing the impor-
tance of early and regular
visits to the dentist is the
message in April for Oral
Health Month. Public Health
will be distributing an infor-
mation package encouraging
area physicians, nurse prac-
titioners and midwives to
share the "First Visit by First
Birthday" message with
young families. It is a mis-
conception that children
don't need to see a dentist
until they have all their teeth,
or are getting ready to go to
school. By the time there is a
problem, such as a cavity or
toothache, it is too late.
Good oral health starts at
birth. Cleaning of children' s
gums should begin before
they develop their first tooth.
Once teeth start to appear,
brushing at least twice a day
with a soft wet toothbrush
should be routine.
In Grey Bruce, only half of
mothers clean their baby's
teeth and gums daily and a
quarter of moth-
ers never clean their baby's
mouth at all. Lack of oral
care can lead to cavities,
gum disease and early tooth
loss, which can affect speech
and language and healthy
child development.
Just over 10 per cent of
preschool children in Grey
Bruce have cavities. Our goal
is to reduce this number by
educating and promot-
ing "First Visit by First
Birthday':
