They can be as varied as the individual who awaits them. This week's edition of the Lucknow Sentinel has several sure signs that spring has arrived. The first thing you will have noticed is the kites. Yes, kite -flying weather is here. Whether you make your own, buy an inex- pensive one from a store or just go watch other people fly theirs, kites hold a beauty and fascination for many people of all ages. The Bruce County Public Library is cele- brating spring with their Seedy Saturday campaign. This is a wonderful opportunity to exchange seeds with others to bring more variety into area gardens. The SPCA is also running their iAdopt campaign for spring to find forever homes for animals in their care. In sports we see the winding down of both the hockey and curling seasons, while the crokinole season is backup and running in Scone. The Legion poster and public speaking contestants have moved up to the next levels of competition. The focus of employment news is on retraining to keep residents of the Bruce and surrounding counties in the work- force. The spring reminder is again out to look into Ontario Summer Jobs program- ming. Be sure to keep checking the Senti- nel Classifieds to be aware of local opportunities. Last, but not least, a very sure sign of spring came to Lucknow in the form of the Easter Bunny. A lot of very happy children took part in the Annual Easter Egg Hunt organized by the Kinettes and sponsored by the Lucknow Chamber of Commerce. Although most of the participants had to bundle up in their winter wear, there was no doubt that the colourful eggs and the friendly bunny were wonderful spring morning smile creators. Excited squeals were heard as egg gatherers located their own special egg and hurried to the helpers to claim their treats. In many ways spring is springing up all through the area. Be sure to send your spring news and photos (in .jpg format please) to lucknow.editorial@sunmedia.ca to share with our readers. What is your favourite sign of spring? Dungannon & St. Helen's News Shag Campbell March 5th saw 11 lively folks for coffee at the Dungannon Seniors Centre and the afternoon euchre group had 9 card players. Tom had high card with a 54, Judy came in second with a 53 and George had a nice total of 51 for 3rd place. Well done folks. Licensed Lay Reader Joan Campbell of Dungannon led the Palm Sunday service at Christ Church in Port Albert with 19 in attendance. Some folks attended the syrup festival in Paisley over the weekend with log sawing on Sunday at 11:30 but unfortu- nately no results came to this reporter. There has been shinny broomball Lucknow News Ruth Dobrensky Now that spring is finally here, it is here, isn't it? We can look forward to long sunny days and warm evenings on the patio in our shorts and sandals, or can we? I think that spring is the most wonderful time of year with all the flow- ers and trees and blossoms budding and bringing forth their lovely colours and scents to help rid our minds of the long black and white winter we've just come through. Spring also brings out all the people who like me call baseball their favourite sport. I noticed in last week's paper that there will be a baseball camp in Clinton this summer with one of my favourite pro ballplayers of the 80's, Jesse Barfield, the guy with the big smile and the generous heart who played for the Blue Jays for nine years. I'm going to keep track of the every Monday from 7 to 8:15 pm. Shoes and helmets but no skates. Joan and Shag attended the Celebra- tion of Life gathering at St. George's Church sponsored by McCallum and Palla Funeral Home. Joan read a poem titled, "We Will Remember Them". The Harbouraires gave some wonderful musical tributes under the leadership of their director Liz Tolchard. Other read- ings were given by visitors from some of the area churches. A lovely evening was followed by lunch. It seems that March went out like a lion in some areas especially London and Sarnia. Fortunately it missed us. Got news? Call Shag at 519-529-7734. days and see if I can sneak into the camp and get his picture and maybe an auto- graph. Do you think I could pass for a par- ent or grandparent of one of the kids? Well, I'm going to try, so wish me luck! Yesterday, several members of the Lucknow Sepoy Ranees attended a Queen's Luncheon in Hanover. These are semi-annual dinners held by Red Hat groups so that the Queen's and others in the various groups can get together to share news of past and up -coming events, and of course to have fun. We always have a good time sharing and showing off our red hats and purple finery. Library Movie Night with "St. Vincent" Grant Robertson Lucknow Public Library Coming up on April 8 at 6:30 pm will be a free showing of the comedy with a heart St. Vincent starring Bill Murray. Vincent is an old Vietnam vet whose stubbornly hedonistic ways have left him without money or a future. Things change when his new next-door neighbour's son, Oliver, needs a babysitter and Vince is will- ing enough for a fee. From that self-serving act, an unexpected friendship forms as Vincent and Oliver find so much of each other's needs through each other. As Vincent mentors Oliver in street survival and other worldly ways, Oliver begins to see more in the old man than just his foi- bles. When life takes a turn for the worse for Vincent, both them find the best in each other than no one around them suspects. Trailer: https://youtu.be/9dP5lJnJHXg.
