Happy Easter
and Safe Spring
Sring is a time for Easter, but is also a time to
p
begin new routines and face new challenges.
's issue of the Sentinel covers many areas of
safety and preparedness, but also holds some happy
thoughts and memories.
The annual Variety Night hosted by the Lucknow
United Church had a spring theme of `April Showers
Brings May Flowers : It was awonderful evening that
put the spring in a lot of people's step from the deco-
rations to the delicious meal, to the enjoyment of the
talents of local youth through adults. However, the
mixture of spring meltwater and spring rains can
often cause problems when the combined water
levels and runoff are too great. Be sure to read the
articles on flooding in this issue, particularly ifyou
are in the flood area identified in Huron -Kinloss and
in the village of Luclmowbythe Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority. The Ontario Insurance
Board offers tips to minimize damage from flood.
Food safety is another focus of this edition of the
Sentinel. We can all be proud that the area farmers
and vendors are taking food safety seriously and
being responsible in participating in a workshop to
educate themselves on practices and standards. This
is yet another venue inwhichwe can market our
wares with an emphasis on excellence. The Huron
County Health Unit also provides safety tips for food
handling for consumers from storage to preparation
to cooking.
Health is again discussed in the articles on the
increase in Autism found in students in the Bluewa-
ter District School Board and the impacts that are
being felt in providing services. Another school
related health concem is the number of students
who do not have updated immunization records,
either due to lack of reporting or because the immu-
nizations have not been administered.
Getting back to the happy, there was avery suc-
cessful bowling event in both Goderich and Luc -
know this past weekend to raise funds for Big Broth-
ers Big Sisters of North Huron. Lucknow area can be
proud to have raised well more than half of the funds
that will go to services and programs for those within
North Huron.
Another win goes to the Peewee Development
Team who were awarded the banner and trophy for
Most Sportsmanlike Team at the Young Canada
Week tournament. We can be proud of both the
players and their coaches for such an honour. After
all, the old adage goes, "It does not matter whether
you win or lose. It is how you play the game:'
Here is wishing you all avery Happy Easter and a
safe and healthy spring.

Happy 90th birthday to Frank
Allison who celebrated his big day
recently. Congrats Frank and
many more.
Last Tuesday, the Lucknow
Community Christian Reformed
Church held Tuesday's Table for
members of the community. A
delicious dinner was prepared by
volunteers headed up by Ida Piel.
The next dinner will be in April at
Lucknow United Church.
I think that spring is finally
here, there have been attempts by
winter to reassert itself, but that
big old sun has managed to keep
the bits of snow that have fallen to
melt away quickly while continu-
ing to attack the piles of snow still
left from winter. Even threats of
freezing rain have not been able
to put a damper on spring and
hopefully another week or so will
have us knee deep in flowers and
green grass.
Speaking of the sun, did any of
you out there get to see the northern
lights a week or so ago. I just love
watching them, but unfortunately I
didn't see them this time around.
boat launch on Wednesday,
March 18. Unfortunately no fish
were caught.
Randy Kerr celebrated his 65th
birthday with a party at Flippin'
Eggs on March 25. Sure looked
like they were having a good time.
Happy birthday Randy.
Special note: Please save your
outer plastic milk bags and also
plastic grocery bags and deposit
them in the bin at the Knechtel
Food Mart in Lucknow. These
bags are woven, or knitted into
mats for homeless people. Thanks
for your help with this project.
For the ardent ice -fishers, the
season is over on Lake Simcoe
and Mitchell's Bay.

This weekend is Easter and
many churches in the area will be
celebrating with special services
for Maundy Thursday, Good Fri-
day, and of course, for Easter Sun-
day. Many of us who gave up
things for Lent will finally be able
to do, or in my case, eat, what I
gave up for Lent. I must admit to
having had withdrawal symptoms,
but after the first couple of weeks, I
managed to curtail my cravings for
ice cream and chocolate. Boy, am I
ever looking forward to Sunday,
not just for the chocolate, but for
the joyous news that Easter Sun-
day brings. Our little family will be
getting together for Easter dinner
and the exchanging of Easter treats
as usual, but it's the family get-
together that is important and
what I look forward to most. Here's
wishing everyone out there a joy-
ous and wonderful Easter.
I know the children in town will
have a good time this Saturday when
the Lucknow Chamber of Commerce
holds its annual Easter egg hunt.
