Remembes Crime doesn't pay Crime Stoppers Does OATI urges long term federal funding The Ontano Agricultural Training Institute (OATI) wants a commit - mast from the federal government for long-term funding of farmer training programs. "Fanners are living in an ever changing environment that demands constant upgrading in farm business management skills," said OATI Board of Directors' Chair Nancy McGill in a presentation to the federal task force on farm finance and management in Toronto on December 13. "We need a national farm management training program that provides long-term fending to generate effective courses which will develop and enthusiastic training culture and enhanced farm management skills in Canada's farm community," said McGill All areas of farm management need attention, she told the task force, but stressed finance, marketing, human resources and production economics as the areas of most urgent need. Programs should be available to all farm family members and employees "because effective business operation requires an informed, cooperative team." "The focus of this training needs BEAUI1FUL SINGING - Students from Si- James School's Grade 4 class sang Chnstmas Carols to residents of Seaforth Manor and Retirement Horne Decernber 20. OATI's mission is to enable fanners to be willing and able to do things they were previously unable to do, by providing small group, hands-on courses in rural corn- mutitics across the province. "Such effective training courses will help Ontario Farmers manage their ever- changing environment," said McGill, "but federal long-term funding is a must if such needed programs are to continue," she stressed. The Ontario Agriculuual Training lastitute is a non-profit Corporation established in 1989 by the Ontario Fedeaation of Agriculture in on with the public, private. cooperation profit sectors of the On- tario agricultural community.
