All of Main _Civic Corner _ SEAFORTH AND DISTRICT COMMUNITY CENTRES will meet on Thursday, December 13 at 8 p.m in the Committee Room at the Community Centres. THE SEAFORTH PLANNING ADVISORY COMMITTEE will hold its regular December meeting Monday December 17 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Town Hall. SEAFORTH COUNCIL'S regular November meeting has been rescheduled from Tuesday, Decem- ber 11, 1990 to Tuesday December 18 at 8 p.m. in the Council Cham- bers Town Hall. THE LOCAL ARCHITEC- TURAL ADVISORY COMMIT- TEE will meet Wednesday, Decem- ber 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Town Hall. Street has been declared a Heritage Designation area, and renovations should be done in the spirit of the Victorian Streetscape ideal. The Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) helped with the recent restorations, providing advice on the work and grants from the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture. The grants are administered through the Town of Seaforth of- fice. LACAC approves of the work and assists the affected property owners by giving advice from the planning stage through to completion of the work. All the work must be done according to ministry guidelines to be eligible for grant money. Grants are available for any Heritage Desig- nated property regardless if it is a place of business or a house. Most of the restoration work carried out on Heritage Designated properties in Seaforth has been done by local contractors. Work on the building housing thc optometrist office was done some time ago. Some of the woodwork was repaired and other parts of it were replaced. All the exterior woodwork was painted and a new door installed in the doorway leading upstairs to apartments. Grants from the Ontario Ministry of Culture and Citizenship were granted to the owners of the buil- ding to help them with the cost of the restcration. The grants cover 50 per cent of the cost up to a maximum of $3,000. Shinen's Mens' and Ladies' Wear has cleared the front of its store of black ceramic tile and cleaned and repaired the brickwork underneath. The front door and windows are remaining the same at this time, but a showcase has been installed in the front window. A wooden fascia board was constructed by a local carpentry company and now hangs above the front window and door. All of the work done on thc Shinen's building was not covered by grants, but the brick cleaning and repairs were given 50 per cent of the cost by the provincial government in a grant up to $3,000. The Frank Kling Ltd. store had black cerami,: tile on its exterior, too, and removed it to expose the brick work underneath. An awning from the front window was also removed.
