Harvestir the Ice.
Messrs. Wm. Arm. or & Son have had
a force of men and teams at work for
the past week gathering in next sum-
mer's ice supply. Fir a tune it looked
rather bad for a goo a supply of this very
useful article, but the cold weather
helped matters. The ice is of excellent
quality, but only a little better than a
foot in thickness.

From last Friths s daily papers we
learn of the sudden cath of Mr. Gordon
E. Williams in B ilevue hospital at
New York. Deceas d young man was
aged 2G years and w s born in Wingham
being the only son f Mr. C. E. Wil-
liams, for many ars engaged in the
drug business in t is town, The young
man was in the 1 al office of the Bank
of Hamilton, prio to his leaving Wing -
ham in the fall f 1897. We have not
been able to Lear the cause of his death.
Interment took ace at Brockville.

Public Snhool Board.
At the regular \neeting of the Public
School Board ou -vuesday evening, there
were present Messrs. Griffin, Homuth,
Kerr, Lloyd, L,ng. Moore, and the
chairman, Dr. A. J. Irwin, presided.
The following coounts were ordered
to be paid :—Hu h Hamilton, assisting

High School Board vas held on Wednes-

On motion of Da Kennedy and C P
Smith, John Wils ,n was appointed
chairman pro tem.
Dr Macdonald, in i few words spoke
of the active part tai en by Dr Irwin in
the securing of a Hill School for Wing -
ham, and with pleas#re moved that Dr
Dr Irwin be appointer Chairman. This
motion was seconded by W F VanStone
and carried uaanimo tsly.
Dr Irwin thanked leis fellow members
on the board for the onor they had con-
ferred upon him.
On motion of Dr '' ennedy and John
Wilson, 0 P Smith s appointed Secre-
tary pro tem.
Moved by J A Mo ton, seconded by
John Wilson, that th offices of Secre-
tary and Treasurer bi separate -Carried.

appointed Secretary, and in view of the
extra work for the fist year, the salary
