Centenaires lack consistency on ice
The Seaforth Centenaires took a
period to wake up Sunday afternoon
at the arena and the snooze cost
them the hockey game as they
dropped a 4 - 3 decision to the Prot
Stanley Lakers. Friday night it was
another case of "close but no cigar"
as they put together an impressive
effort but lost 3 - 2 in overtime to
the league -leading Lucan Irish, also
at the arena.
The team's inconsistency is star-
ting to concern coach Bob Zimmer.
"We can't seem to put two good
games together," he says. "we are
not a big physical club but we do
have character and now we have to
have the desire to be ready to play
every night for 60 minutes, not 40
and not 20."
The team sometimes seems con-
tent to be merely respectable, says
Zimmer, but it will take more
desire for them to become winners.
Although the Centenaires gained
a point in the standings from Friday
night's overtime loss, they have
now lost five straight games and
tumbled to a tie for sixth place in
the western division of the Ontario
Hockey Association's Western
Junior D League. All this makes
Friday night's 8:45 game at the
Seaforth and District Community
Centres extremely important. Al-
vinston is in town and the Flyers
are one point back of the Cen-
tenaires in the standings, in eighth
place, the final playoff position.
Saturday night the Centenaires
travel to Mt. Brydges for an 8:30
game against the last place
Bulldogs.
The Centenaires were behind 2 -
0 after the first period Sunday, and
it could easily have been 5 - 0 save
for the goaltending of Bill Tremeer.
Zimmer was not amused with the
team's lack of effort and let them
know in no uncertain terms between
periods. The effort arrived but the
deficit increased to 3 - 0 in the
second period before Ted Sills
scored to make it 3 - 1 going into
the third. Foolish penalties cost the
Lakers in the final 20 minutes, all
three Seaforth goals came via the
powerplay, as Danny Wildfong and
Jason Schoonderwoerd lit the lamp
to temporarily knot it up, before
Doug Jamieson scored the winner

simply, an excellent shot. Blair

Ringette Belles on a winning streak
On Sunday, November 18 the
Ringette Belles defeated St. Marys
to add another win to their record.
The game was very close as St.
Marys gave Seaforth a run for their
money.
The first shift on the ice was like
a ping pong game as action was at
both ends of the ice. It wasn't until
the second shift that Seaforth's
Tracy Fortune ripped one in with
help from Lisa "Hendy" Henderson.
This line was keen to go as "He-
ndy" scored, assisted by Tracy
Fortune. This pair added yet
another goal. St. Marys achieved
two. Fortune was not satisfied as
she hit the ice again and scored
assisted by centremen Tammy Nash
and winger Sheri Kling. St. Mary's
gave Seaforth quite a scare as they
kept Seaforth to a one goal lead
through out the first period. To end
the period Nash flipped the ring
into the net off a rebound shot from
Becky Harrison and a pass from
defence Tracey Sills.
The second period saw Seaforth
wake up and smell the coffee as
"Hendy" blew the ring in the top
right hand corner. Help came from
Shelly Nigh. Becky Harrison scored
two in a row and assists went to
Kling and Fortune. Fortune proved
her talent and ended the game with
a pair of goals.
Seaforth's goalie Tawnya
Glousher played awesome and
limited St. Mary's to only one more
goal. Final score 11 to 4.
The next game is Wednesday,
November 21 in Stratford.
