VAN EGMOND ROBERT BELL,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Bell of
Seaforth, and husband of the former
Helen Jane Hamilton of Toronto,
was killed on active service over-
seas on March 6, 1945. He served
with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
From letters received from him
prior to his death, he had been
posted for duty at a base in France.
FO. Bell was 26 years of age
when he died. He enlisted in the
RCAF in 1940 and went overseas
in November 1944. He trained at
Trenton, Victoriaville, Quebec,
Moncton, New Brunswick and
Stanley, Nova Scotaia. He
graduated as a pilot officer at
Moncton, New Brunswick in 1942
and later served as a member of the
Ferry Command at Rockcliffe and
Toronto. He took a special course
on Mosquito aircraft at Debert,
Nova Scotia, before going overseas.
The young officer was born in
Seaforth and received his education
at Seaforth Public School and Col-
legiate Institute. He was popularly
known throughout the community
and was well known as an athlete
playing both hockey and football
for school and town teams.
Besides his wife, he left behind a
14 -month-old daughter.
