Novice open 1990 season with a win
After a one win, two losses and
one tie record in preseason, the
Seaforth Novice team opened its
regular season Saturday versus
Listowel.
On Saturday, Seaforth and Lis-
towel played a tight checking game
until 8:14 of the opening frame
when Listowel penetrated the
Seaforth defence and beat goal -
tender Dean Wood to take an early
1 - 0 lead. The locals fought back
to score their regular season goal of
Atom is win
For their second game of the
season, the Seaforth Atom I team
was up against Listowel and won
that contest 4 - 2.
They were caught napping at the
beginning of the game, however,
and before the five minute mark of
the first period Listowel had scored
two unanswered goals.
It wasn't until the halfway mark
in the second period that Seaforth
finally got on the scoreboard. Josh
Dietz scored unassisted on a long
shot that went through the goalie's
legs. Later in the period, Mark Van
Dooren tied the game on a pass
from Michael Mullin.
In the third period, Mark finished
off his hat trick with a shot into the
top left corner and an empty net
goal with one second left to play in
the game. The final score was
Seaforth 4 and Listowel 2.
On the next day, Sunday, Clinton
came to town for the second time
this season. The Seaforth boys had
1990 at 7:21. Ryan Van Dooren
was credited with the goal with an
assist going to Daniel Nash. Lis-
towel was able to get one more
tally before the first period was out.
The second period proved
disasterous to the Seaforth Novice
as Listowel scored five goals to
jump into a commanding lead of 7 -
2. Seaforth goaltender Danny
O'Reilly was at the mercy of the
Listowel offence on many occasions
two games
learned their lesson from the Lis-
towel game and came out ready to
play. The first goal was scored after
only 15 seconds of play when Rob
Craig tipped in Michael Mullin's
shot. Scott Henderson also scored
in the first period by deflecting in
Jeremey McNichol's hard shot from
the blue line. Clinton came back
with one goal in the first period to
narrow Seaforth's lead to one goal.
In the second period, Brandon
Nash scored from the face off
circle. Assists were awarded to his
two wingers -- Rob Craig and
Michael Mullin.
In the last period, Clinton scored
midway through the period. This
goal really fired up the Clinton
team as they sought to tie up the
score. The Seaforth boys were up to
the challenge, however, and
managed to protect their lead until
the final buzzer. The score was
Seaforth 3 and Clinton 2.
