Former Dublin resident celebrates 90th birthday

and formerly a resident of Dublin
for 84 years, celebrated tier 90th
butblday on Sunday, Oct. 7th at St.

Hibbert United Church Women
held their meeting in the form of a
Coffee Hour October 11, in the
Family Life Centre with Helen Fell,
Pat McKinnon and Verle Mahon as
hostesses.
Barbara Pullman welcomed a
large auendance to the programme,
during which Valerie Scott read

Mitchell favored with two solos,
with Mary F. Dow as accompanist.
Valerie Scott introduced Laurie
Anne Schmidt, R.R. 01 Brunner,
who demonstrated the use of a scarf
as a valuable accessory. Her
daughter Kathy McPhail assisted as
a model.
The United Church Women
presented gifts to Mrs. Harris and
Mrs. Schmidt..
A shun buss nets meeting chatted
by Mary F. Dow followed. Hibbert
United Church Women will assist at
the Regional meeting in Mitchell on
October 17.
A speaker from Perth County
Food Bank will speak when the
United Church Woman assist with
the church service on November 25.
Hibbert United Church Worsen
were invited to Dublin C. W L.
bazaar on October 24.
Anne Mario Allan, minister, con-
ducted the closing.
BRIEFS
A large crowd of friends, relatives
and neighbors, attended the 25th
wedding anniversary party for Freda
and Bill Kerslake, in Brodhagen,
Saturday evening.
A good crowd attended the
awards night and dance for the
South Hibben Athletic Association
on Saturday evening at the Dublin
Pavillion.
Bulbs to be planted at
town hall, library
The Seaforth Horticultural Society
met on Wednesday, October 10,
1990 at the Van Egmond House.
President Nancy Kale welcomed
everyone and thanked all those who
helped in any way with the Septem-
ber dessert meeting, with the Fall
Fair, and with Ciderfest. Repainting
of the Horticultural logos for the
Town signs was discussed and a
final decision was left to the
executive. There was no interest in
ordering trees and shrubs for 1991.
Nancy Kale reported on the OHA
annual convention which she at-
tended in June. The Civic
Improvement Committee will inves-
tigate the planting of bulbs at the
Town Hall and Library. Marj Phil-
lips announced that there will be a
bus trip to the Royal Winter Fair on
November 12 in conjunction with
the Hensall Horticultural Society.

George Pagowski of the Royal
Botanical Gardens, Hamilton gave
an informative demonstration on
forcing bulbs. A delicious lunch of
apple fritters, cookies and cider was
prepared by the Social Committee
and members of the Van Egmond
Foundation. Betty Cardno was
thanked and presented with a
donation on behalf of the Society.
The annual meeting and pot luck
supper will be held on Wednesday,
November 14 at 6:15 at the
Seaforth Public School. All com-
mittee heads are asked to have
written reports ready to present.
Someone from the University of
Guelph will speak on "The Way
The Earth Works".

FIONA SIMS

Fiona Catherine Lillian Sim of
RR 3 Kippen, died Wednesday,
October 3, 1990 at the Seaforth
Community Hospital. She was 68.
Born at Inverness, Scotland on
April 29, 1922, she was a daughter
of the late Angus MacLeod and the
former Georgina Neat.
She is survivied by her husband,
David C. Sim; sons, Norman of St.
Pauls, tan of Galt and David of
Southwold; a daughter, Catherine
Alexander of Exeter; a sister Stella
of England; and grandchildren,
Jennifer, Viki, Michelle, Chris-
topher, Leanne, Candice and Ryan
Sim, and Michael and Nicole
Alexander.
Friends were received at the
Whitney-Ribey funeral home,
Seaforth and a funeral service was
held at First Presbyterian Church.
Burial was in Harpurhey Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy,
donations may be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society.
ETHEL COLEMAN
Ethel May (Smith) Coleman,
formerly of Tuckersmith Township
and Seaforth, died Wednesday,
October 10, 1990 at the Seaforth
Community Hospital. She was 93.
Born in Sarnia on May 3, 1897,
she was a daughter of the late
Josiah Smith and Susannah Levitt.
She is survived by daughters,
Dorothy and husband Ernest Talbot
of Bayfield, and Hazel and husband
George Hildebrand of Seaforth; a
son, Emerson and wife Audrey of
Exeter; nine grandchildren; and 22
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Coleman was predeceased
by her husband, T. Russell
Coleman; a sister Mabel (Mrs. John
Smith); and brothers, William and
Norman Smith, and Ellsworth Pear-
son.
Friends were received at the Ball
and Falconer Funeral Home, Box
Chapel, Seaforth, and a funeral
service was held Friday, and of-
ficiated by the Reverend Cheryl -
Anne Stadelbauer-Sampa of Eg-
mondville United Church. Burial
was in Maitlandbank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandchildren,
Robert Coleman, Beverly Coleman,
Douglas Hildebrand, Stephen Hil-
debrand, Russell Talbot and Paul
Betties. Flower bearers were Rick
Wood and Brian Wilson.

O'SULLIVAN
Patrick Sylvester O'Sullivan,
formerly of Dublin, died at Douglas
Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, on
Sunday, October 14, 1990. He was
69.

ANNE GERTRUDE DOWNEY
Ann Gertrude Downey, RN. died
at St. Marys Hospital on Tuesday,
October 2, 1990. She was 84.
She was a sister of the late Agnes
Christopher, Emily Dick and Tom
Downey, and sister-in-law of
Thomas Christopher of London.
She is survived by many nieces and
nephews.
Friends were received at the John
T. Donohue Funeral Home and a
funeral mass was held at St.
Michael's Church. Interment was at
St. James Cemetery, Seaforth.

Care Centre would be appreciated.
MARIA TERESA GOOVAERTS
Maria Teresa (VanHoven)
Goovaerts of the Seaforth Manor,
and formerly of RR 2 Grand Bend,
died Monday, October 15, 1990 at
the Seaforth Community Hospital.
She was 80.
She is survived by a daughter
Elia (Mrs. Keith Ruston) of
Seaforth; and two sons, Alphonse
Goovaaerts of RR 2 Grand Bend
and Louis Goovaerts of London.
Also surviving are seven
grandchildren, and three great-
grandchildren; a sister Anna Ver-
berck of Belgium; and brothers,
Louis, Edward and Armand, also of
Belgium.
Mrs. Goovaerts was predeceased
by her husband Franz Goovaerts,
nand by a sister Leonie.
She rested at the T.H. Hoffman
and Sons Funeral Home in Dash-
wood and visitation was on Tues-
day. A Funeral Mass will be held
today (Wednesday, October 17) at
10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Roman Catholic Church,
Grand Bend. Interment in Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made
to the Seaforth Manor, the Resident
Council Quality Care Fund, or the
charity of one's choice.
LESLIE NELSON NICHOLSON
Leslie Nelson Nicholson of Blyth
died Thursday, October 11, 1990 at
his residence. He was 80.
He is survived by two brothers:
Norman and wife Gladys Nicholson
of Atwood and Wallace and wife
Shirley Nicholson of Blyth.
He was predeceased by a brother
Charles.
A private family service was
held on Sunday afternoon from the
Betts Funeral Home, Brussels
Chapel. Cremation has taken place.
