'Ilan to page hi • Seaforth native wins tour BY HZATH$R ROBINHT For the fourth time in five years Seaforth native Steve Benneu has won the Greater London Mini -Tour of golf. The 32 -year-old Bennett, from Bright's Grove Huron Oaks, finished the tour with a point score of 198.5, just off a perfect score of 200. He got that score by amassing four wins and three second place finishes in seven events. Fifty points are awarded for a first place finish and 49 for second. Only a golfer's best four events figure into the scoring. Bennett failed to reach a perfect score only because he shared one of his victories with another golfer. But the Mini -Tour win is only a part of this victory song. Ac- cording to Bennett 1990 has been his best year ever. In addition to his win last week, Bennett also won the Ontario Spring Open in London, the Stratford Pro -Am and the London Highland Pro -Am, and finished second in the Sarnia Pro -Am, the Simcoe Pro -Am, and the OPGA tournament. As a result of his win in the Spring Open, Bennett has qualified for the Ontario Golf Team which will compete against Quebec this week in Montreal. Other wins have netted Bennett some much appreciated cash prizes. "It's been a profitable year," he joked, adding that locally the prizes aren't all that lucrative. "It's more the bragging rights. STEVE BENNETT It's still competitive, but it's more the companionship and playing with your fellow pros," he said. "I'm looking forward to it again next year." Bennett is a son of Bill and Beuy Bennett, and began his golfing career in Seaforth at age 11. He has been Head Pro at Huron Oaks Country Club (previously named the Canter- bury Country Club) since 1981, and for three years prior to that served as its Assistant Pro. He is recently engaged and on January 19, 1991 in Toronto, will marry Wendy Kell, of Saskatoon. THE HURON EXHUbi t(»1 OC'TOBt 10.
