Indians influence masks
Students at St. James school had
the opportunity to learn about
masks and mask making and have a
trip to an art gallery to see Native
Canadian masks.
The trip was to the Gallery Strat-
ford to see the exhibit of artwork
by west -coast Canadian Natives and
they saw masks, totem poles, pot-
latch boxes and furniture.
Back at their school the students
had the chance to each make a
mask and help a partner make a
mask.
Strips of bandages soaked in
plaster were applied to the students'
faces and as the mask dried it took
the shape of the faces. After a week
of drying, the masks were painted
in any design the students' wished.
THE MESSY PART IS THE FUN PART - Students made their
own masks from bandages soaked in plaster. Jill Dolmage (right)
puts finishing touches on Eve Nagel's mask. Oxford photo.

Don't blame us
We manage post offices in communities like yours - the backbone of
postal service in this country. We understand the frustration you feel
over the decline in service from Canada Post. You're not mistaken.
Consider these facts:
▪ • 800 post offices have been shut down, and the list is growing
every week
Saturday hours in the federally operated post offices are being
reduced and the doors are being closed to the public during noon
hour throughout the week
•• management's alternative is to have more and more mail
pmces,9ed in variety stores
We think you deserve better.
Things can change if Ixiliticians know their jobs depend on it. Tell
your Member of Parliament that the federally operated post office is a
service you won't do without. They'll get the message.
