Huron earns bragging rights at IPM
"I bet you don't plow like that at
home? How many acres do you
plow a year with that little plow?
What do you need stakes for?"
These are just a few of the ques-
tions asked of all the young plow
people that attended the Inter-
national Plowing Match in Paris,
Ontario from September 18 to 22.
At the match this year, Huron
County earned its bragging rights,
with the most plow people from
one county at the International. All
of the county's plow people, 12,
were also within a few points from
the top spot.
Heather McGavin of Walton was
by far the most royal competitor
from Huron, as she represented the
local organization as its Queen.
Huron County had four com-
petitors in Class 2 Group 1, which
is open to plow people between the
ages of 12 and 17, using a two
furrow plow. Competing for Huron
were: Jonathan Hugill of RR 2
Seaforth, Ken Bettles of Kippen,
Jeff Grobbink of Walton and
Jeremy Becker of Dashwood.
Jonathon Hugill, 15 was the
reserve winner in his class, and also
won the Clark Young Award of a
gold watch. This award goes to the
competitor with the highest points
in his/her grouping, provided he/she
has not won the award before.
Jonathon was the only Huron com-
petitor to win this award.
In the next class, for those aged
17 to 20 years, Matt Townsend of
Seaforth was the only Huron
representative for the two furrow
plowing competition.
Huron County had over one-third
