High school boys golf team wins Huron -Perth title
The Seaforth District High School
boys golf team travelled to Listowel
Thursday September 20 to defend
its Huron Perth golf title.
The team
came through with flying colors
once again, winning its second
straight Huron Perth Conference
golf title.
The four member team comprised
of Karsten Carroll, Tony Greidanus,
David McNairn and Jason Patter-
son, defeated its nearest rival by
eight strokes. Individually Karsten
finished second, Tony third and
David tied for fourth in the school
competition.
Three of the team members
travelled to Woodstock on Thursday
September 28 to participate in the
W.O.S.S.A. golf toumament. As a
team SDHS placed a very respec-
table sixth among 38 teams from
high schools in Sarnia, London,
Woodstock, St. Thomas as well as
other Huron Perth schools.
The highlight of the day was the
individual play of Karsten Carroll
who ended up as Co -Champion of
the tournament. Karsten shot a very
fine 74 to tie for first place among
the 128 golfers present.
Congratulations to the team for a
fine performance.
Behinders on track with bowling win
After being swept in the first
week of Thursday Nighter Bowling
the "Behinders" took all three
games and seven points from the
"Four Plus Two" team.
Leading the win was Steve Steep
with a 291 game. Karl Teichert was
consistent with 224/615 and
Michelle Deighton continued her
strong pace with 213/566. Dan
Bennewies finished with a 230
game after a slow start.
On the losing side "Four Plus
Two" only challenged in the second
game (lost by 19 pins) Ralph
Johnston was high bowler with a
200 game. Scoring a second con-
secutive sweep and an early first
place lead were "The Simpsons".
This week's victims were the "Pink
Panthers".
Leading "The Simpsons" was
team Captain Mark McKellar with
285/727. Dave Moody rolled
236/671, Deb Bedard 204/586 and
Doug Procter had a 200 game.
The "Pink Panthers" were led by
Doug Leonhardt 241/637 and Erich
Matzold 251/613. The balance of
the team bowled well but could not
challenge the hot competition.
The closest matchup of the night
featured the unnamed team #4. It

"Rocky Rollers". Leading the team
was Carol Bennewies with 228/580.

pre -season tuneup.
The Centenaires bring their show
from the road this Friday night at
8:30 when the host Lambeth in
their home opener at the Seaforth
and District Community Centres.
Saturday night's game was inter-
rupted several times while players
skated around to disperse the fog
over the newly installed ice at Port
Stanley. The fog seemed to extend
to their game which lacked an edge
and any intensity. The Centenaires
had lots of chances but couldn't
finish, as Port Stanley built a 2 - 0
lead after the first period, and after
a scoreless second increased the
margin to 4 - 0 before Jason
Schoonderwoerd and Dave Wil-
liams notched Seaforth goals with
about four minutes left in the game.
Dana Duskocy of Stratford went the
distance between the Seaforth pipes.
It was a relatively clean game with
a total of three minor penalties and
offsetting fighting majors and game
misconducts.
This was a far cry from Wednes-
day's final exhibition at Ayr where
Seaforth's opponents came out
loaded for bear for the opening
minute, but the smaller and quicker
Seaforth team escaped with the win
and their lives, barely. The matter
wasn't settled until Ted Sills put the
insurance goal into an empty net
with 15 seconds left. Then with no
time left on the clock, Ayr's Bill
Hopper brutally assaulted Jasen
Muir in an unprovoked attack, for
which referee Scott Kemp taw fit to
asset% only an extra minor penalty.
It wasn't pretty.
But it was a win
