Residents enjoy trip to K -W sales barn
MAPLEWOOD MANOR
This month at Maplewood marked
the return to more indour acuvtties
along with the ilitcresung daytnps.
The popular Tuesday euchre has
been assumed. Thank you to Ann
Downey who has volunteered to
help with Maplewood's progressive
euchre. Pnzes are given to the
ladies' and men's high and low &
most lone hands. Anyone wishing
to join Tuesday's euchre is most
welcome.
On Wednesdays, Maplewood
residents welcomed the return of
the ministerial services. Thank you
to Dr. Bannerman of Northside
United Church, Rev. Sloan of the
Presbyterian church and Rev.
Cheryl Ana Siadelbauer-Sampo of
the Egmondville United Church.
Thursdays are Maplewood's
musical entertainment days. We are
pleaded that Marion Rose and Carol
Caner have volunteered to play the
piano for sing along. After an hour
of sing along residents were back to
their pre -summer fine vocal form.
Bingo on Friday was the one
activity that continued all summer.
This fall, Eva McArmey has volun-
teered to be in charge of bingo.
Thank you Eva; we look forward to
seeing you every Friday.
One of the day trips his month
was to the Blyth Thresher's
Reunion. On Friday, September 7,
the residents and volunteers left
Maplewood in the morning so that
they would be able w have 'lieu
lurch at the reunion. In the after-
noon, after touring all the delays
the group stayed to watch the enter-
tainment. It was thoroughly en-
joyable outing.
After the successful day trip in
August to the Kitchener - Waterloo
sales barns, a second trip was
planned, for Thursday September
13. It was a beautiful day and the
hour and a hall dove to the barns
seemed to fly by. While we were
driving and looking at the
countryside, the residents had many
funny stones about country living,
ucludtng the "old outhouse". At the
K.W. tales bwn►s residents were
attracted to the handmade wafts, the
colourful fresh produce and the
l,vesiuck sutra. The sight and
sounds of the market made u a day
to remember.
On Friday, September 21
residents to Maplewood went to the
Seaforth Fall Fau parade. The
residents were able to watch the
parade in comfort from McLaugh-
lin's car showroom.
Upcoming this week, the Huron
County Health Unit will hold the
foot care clinic at Maplewood on
Wednesday September 26. Also this
week, the manager of the Canadian
Imperial Bank of Commerce will
talk to the residents about a weekly
banking service, that the CIBC will
offer to seniors at Maplewood.
Canadian Mosaic at Hibbert United Church
The autumn activities of Hibben
United Church began with a theme
based on the Canadian Mosaic, led
by Elaine Colquhoun and Margaret
Kemp with Gwen Christie as
pianist. Recent developments in
Canada made this topic relevant.
What can hold the beautiful
Canadian Mosaic to -gather? We
must use the new improved
"Understanding", the members
concluded. The Resource Centre,
the Canadian Bible Society and
Camp Bimini acknowledged with
thanks donations made in June. We
were reminded of "Weave Us
Together" in Fingal, where Rev.
Douglas Ross will speak at the one -
day event. A Toc Alpha Workshop
will be held in Toronto on Decem-
ber 27 - 30. We would support any
individual interested in attending.
Hensall United Church will host a
Stewardship Workshop on October
2. Members were reminded of
Coins for Africa, which will be
forwarded in November.
The October meeting will take the
form'of a Coffee Hour, hosted by,
Valerie Scott, Karen Mahon and
Barb Pullman on October 10, 10
a.m. Ellen Vivan and Marjorie
Drake were in charge of the social
time, bringing the evening to a
close.
Kate Kerslake and Peter Bancroft
were married on Saturday, Septem-
ber 15 at the Hibbert United
Church, with a reception later in
Mitchell. Many from this com-
munity were guests at the wedding
and reception.
Rob and Bev Templeman and
family visited on Sunday with Carol
Stewart, Kitchener.
Slashed Awnings at Goderich Square
SLASHED AWNINGS
Goderich Square - "Schaefers
Ladies Wear" and "Suits Me".
Overnight on July 9-10, 1990 an
unknown culprit slashed the
awnings of 2 Goderich business
premises.
DAMAGED VEHICLES
Sometime during the dates of
August 9 - 10 1990 vehicles were
damaged at 2 locations in Goderich.
The first was a dented hood on a
PJU truck on West Street that ap-
pears to have been done by
someone jumping on the hood.
The second incident was at the
Goderich Chrysler dealership on
Huron Road in Goderich. The
damage was the sides and hood
areas and appears to have been
caused by kicking and jumping on
the vehicles. Damaged were 1 1990
Chrysler dynasty and a 1990 Chrys-
ler LJ Uaron.
BREAK ENTER AND THEFT
At F.E. Madill Secondary School,
Wingham, sometime between 1 and
6 a.m. Tuesday January 17 1989
someone broke into the school by
breaking the large plate glass win-
dow in the door at the South end of
the building. The culprit then went
into the auto shop, science
laboratory and then the principal's
office. Many door windows were
broken and desks ransacked with
the contents being dumped. The
thief even tried to break into the
office safe and made a huge mess
throughout the office.
